What the Bears Dominant Victory Against the Browns Means Going Forward

NFL

The Chicago Bears took care of business at Soldier Field on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Cleveland Browns 31-3 in what was complete domination in all four quarters. Quarterback Caleb Williams completed 17 of 28 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns, leading his offense to an impressive performance. Both touchdown passes were received by wide receiver D.J. Moore, who has struggled so far this season. Williams and Moore were able to find a rhythm, which they’ll look to continue going forward for the rest of the season. Looking at the defensive side of the ball for Chicago, they had their best performance of the season, not allowing a single touchdown. Linebacker D’Marco Jackson, safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and cornerback Jaylon Johnson all earned an interception off quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who struggled all game.

The win puts Chicago at 10-4 on the season, as Ben Johnson is now the third Bears head coach all-time to earn 10 wins in his first year. Following the win, division rivals the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers both lost their matchups, putting Chicago back into first place in the division and two games ahead of the Lions. The Bears haven’t won the division since 2018, and the years that followed saw non-competitive teams. Despite Chicago taking back the division lead, their biggest game of the season will take place this Saturday.

The Bears will have their rematch against the Packers, a game that very well could decide the winner of the division. Green Bay was able to get the better of its rival just a week ago, in a tight game that came down to the final minute. The loss made Bears fans feel like they are more than capable of defeating the Packers, who showed they are evenly matched, which hasn’t happened in many years. During Green Bay’s matchup against the Denver Broncos, wide receiver Christian Watson and defensive end Micah Parsons both went down with injuries that’ll sideline them in the rematch against Chicago. Already holding home advantage this time around, the Bears are now going into the matchup fresh off a dominant victory and against a banged-up Packers team. The battle will decide who will take the North, and it will be one to watch between an old-school rivalry with fresh stakes.
