What the Bears Dramatic Win Over the Bengals Means for the Season
The Chicago Bears defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 47-42 in a thrilling matchup that saw both offenses on fire. This win puts the Bears at 5-3 on the season, and now an intriguing team as the NFL heads towards the trade deadline. The Bears would hold a 41-27 lead in the fourth quarter, seemingly just minutes away from victory with Bengals fans heading for the exits. Quarterback Joe Flacco would rally his team from being down with just under five minutes left to play, and take the lead after recovering an onside kick. With only 37 seconds left, quarterback Caleb Williams would find tight end Colston Loveland in the center of the field, where he would power his way for a 58-yard touchdown. Flacco’s Hail Mary would not get very far, resulting in an interception to seal the game for Chicago.
Williams would throw for 280 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. He would also have a receiving touchdown from wide receiver D.J. Moore, after some Ben Johnson trickery in the playbook. For Bears fans, it’s a sign of relief with not only getting the win, but their quarterback played one of his best games so far this season. His connection with Loveland is starting to heat up, as the big tight end would earn 118 yards and two touchdowns. Bears running back Kyle Monangai would have the best game of his rookie season with D’Andre Swift out, rushing for 176 yards and causing fits all day for the Bengals defense. Now that Chicago has five wins and is heading towards the trade deadline, what’s next for the team?
The Bears could very well be looking at adding a star pass rusher to their defense, potentially one they just played. Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson has been at the center of release talks for quite a while now, as he has been unhappy with Cincinnati. Many around the NFL world believed that this game resulting in a loss could be the straw that broke the camel's back, and see Hendrickson finally move on to another team. While Chicago’s pass rush would have an excellent day, they have been looking for another addition, especially with the injuries piling up. The Bears’ cornerbacks are also going through lots of injuries right now, so they could be in the market for a defensive back to fill the holes. This win may force the Bears to be very aggressive at the deadline, as they are now in a position to fight for a playoff spot.
