What to Expect From Jeff Cobb in the WWE
Jeff Cobb is the latest addition to the WWE roster. The newest Bloodline member made his official debut at Backlash 2025, helping Jacob Fatu retain the WWE United States Championship. Cobb has already been given a name change and will be referred to as JC Mateo on SmackDown. After aligning himself with Fatu, Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, and Tonga Loa, what should fans expect from the Hawaiian powerhouse?
Cobb was previously in NJPW from 2017 to 2025 and was a prominent member of Will Ospreay’s United Empire faction. During his time in New Japan, Cobb became a three-time IWGP Tag Team Champion, and also held both the NJPW World Television and NEVER Openweight Championships. He even became the Ring of Honor World Television Champion, as the two promotions have had an ongoing partnership for years. He made multiple appearances on AEW programming, though he only won three of his 10 total matches for the company.
His massive strength, along with his unreal athletic ability, will result in Cobb becoming one of the most must-see wrestlers on WWE television. At 264 pounds, Cobb can move like Penta, and at five-foot-ten, he can dominate like Omos. In his WWE in-ring debut on the May 16th edition of SmackDown, Cobb impressed fans by hitting a standing moonsault with no effort. Although he is not a member of the Anoa’i Family and has no relationship with the faction, Cobb has had many matches with both Tama and Tonga during their time together in New Japan.
In his first-ever WWE match, Cobb defeated L.A. Knight, a top name in the company. This is a sign that the Bloodline’s newest addition is set to be a huge star and could end up dethroning Jacob Fatu for the US title, as tensions are already rising between them. Fans have already begun questioning his run, as many are not fond of his name now being JC Mateo. However, with the way he has been presented so far, there should be nothing to worry about. He is 42 years old and no longer in his prime, but Cobb is still young to the WWE audience, and he is a fresh face that fans will get used to seeing.
