What’s Next for 'The Scottish Warrior' Heading Into WrestleMania?
The SmackDown after Elimination Chamber saw Cody Rhodes defeat Drew McIntyre to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion. With Randy Orton already earning an opportunity at the world title following his win inside the Elimination Chamber, it’ll be a showdown between two long-time friends for the company’s top title. While both men have cemented their WrestleMania match, this leaves McIntyre in uncertainty with only weeks before WWE hosts its biggest show of the year in Las Vegas. Will McIntyre have a match at WrestleMania, and who will be his opponent?
One path WWE can take with McIntyre is adding him to the WWE Championship match at WrestleMania. It’s no secret that the claymore-kicking powerhouse made a lot of enemies throughout the past year. His ongoing feuds with Rhodes, Orton, and Jacob Fatu have played heavily in his capturing the world title and eventually losing it. Having the WWE title match go from a one-on-one match to a multi-man match means allowing more superstars to be on the WrestleMania. Plus, McIntyre has proven he deserves to perform in The Showcase of the Immortals. A Fatal-Four-Way match for the WWE Championship gives McIntyre his rematch while pitting him against all those he has wronged throughout the past few months.
Another route WWE can go with McIntyre involves him in a match with SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis. The former WWE Champion has been a thorn in the side of Aldis when it comes to the WWE title. For months, McIntyre has interfered in matches and attacked wrestlers left and right. When McIntyre won the WWE title, he made sure that Rhodes wouldn’t be able to get a rematch for the title, making sure that Rhodes had to either win the Royal Rumble or the Elimination Chamber to earn a world title opportunity. Despite competing for those opportunities, McIntyre continues attacking Rhodes and costing him the matches. This left Aldis with no choice but to give Rhodes a world title match, going back on his word. The Scottish Warrior has felt that the world had wronged him, and now that he has lost the title, McIntyre will look to hurt those who did him wrong, and Aldis could be the one that McIntyre takes his anger out on.
With only a couple of weeks left until WrestleMania, WWE will have to decide which path they want to take McIntyre on. WWE is no stranger to booking matches with only a few short weeks in advance, so they might have already decided what McIntyre’s role will be once Las Vegas arrives. It wouldn’t feel right for McIntyre not to have a match on The Grandest Stage of Them All. McIntyre will surely have a huge presence in whatever match he has.
