What’s Next for This Tour Standout?

In spite of this week’s rainy weather, Tommy Fleetwood has been on fire this season! This week, he placed ninth at the 2025 FedEx St. Jude Championship with 1,783 points. He ended the third round with three birdies, a bogey, and a double bogey. His results blew last year’s score out of the water and placed him at the top of the leaderboard by the end of round three. Compared this to his performance in 2024, in which he placed 20th with -10 points.

Since turning pro at only 19, Fleetwood’s abundance of potential would leave fans to think that his next big break was around the corner. Plus, up until this point, he had had a promising career with an Official World Golf Ranking of 15th. In addition to that, he has also had eight international wins, with his latest victory taking place at the 2024 Dubai Invitational. Also, throughout the 16 events he’s played this year, he has failed to live up to expectations by having yet to win a PGA Tour event.

Notable opponents such as Kurt Kitayama and Bud Cauley are also looking to keep their rankings. Last year’s FedEx Cup Champion, Scottie Scheffler, has also been feeling the pressure to improve. Scheffler’s ranking dropped several places behind Fleetwood despite being projected to win the tournament once again this year. Despite his hard-fought win, there are still some bumps in the road when it comes to Fleetwood’s chances. Even with the points he has accumulated after the third round, his rank is still not high enough to earn points in the FedEx Cup or move on to the BMW Championship.

After gaining a lead with three strokes in round three, he has earned a top spot on the leaderboard. Though he has made it to the next round, there does not seem to be much faith in him to go further. Though this is for good reason! This year, he has only been able to crack the top 10 five times during the PGA Tour and placed runner-up once. His inconsistent performance led fans to wonder whether Fleetwood can keep up this momentum.
