Who Are Some Possible Post-OTAs Free Agent Targets for the Jets?
The New York Jets are in the midst of a rebuild. The roster is stronger than a typical rebuilding team might have, with young stars like Garrett Wilson, Sauce Gardner, and Will McDonald. There are still some holes that can be filled with a few late free-agent signings. The Jets will have some extra cap space after their June 1st cuts are processed, so expect them to possibly get active in the summer. Here are some possible moves that they could make.
Keenan Allen, WR
Keenan Allen is the best receiver left on the market. Allen, 33, is on the older side but has not slowed down much, snagging 70 catches for 744 yards in 2024. Allen would be a perfect complement to Garrett Wilson in the passing game and would round out a Jets receiver room that feels a little incomplete. He most likely wouldn’t break the bank either, as he’s an older receiver likely only getting a one-year deal.
James Lynch, DT
James Lynch is a young defensive tackle who played for the Titans in 2024. Lynch was a rotational piece on Tennessee and would likely remain one on the Jets as well. The Jets have some good defensive tackles, such as former All-Pro Quinnen Williams, but they lack depth. Former undrafted free agent Leonard Taylor is a solid piece, but they need a little more to help round out the rotation. Lynch would do just that.
MyCole Pruitt, TE
The Jets addressed tight end in the draft with Mason Taylor, but could still use some depth. Jeremy Ruckert has not worked out so far in New York, and the Jets could look to sign a veteran to back up Taylor instead. Mycole Pruitt could fill this role, as he caught a touchdown in 2024 and is also a serviceable blocker. At age 33, he’s been around the league for a while as well, so he could be a mentor for the young tight-end room.
Amari Cooper, WR
Amari Cooper to the Jets is something that has been projected multiple times by multiple members of the media. Jets fans are split on the idea of signing Cooper. Some want to get him in the building as quickly as possible to be the wide receiver two of this team. Others believe Cooper’s second half of the 2024 season showed a receiver who is over the hill and wants to give the reps to younger players like Arian Smith. Despite the controversy, it’s undeniable that there is a need on this Jets team that Cooper would fill.
