Who Are Some Possible Replacements for the Scottish Warrior at SummerSlam?
Last Sunday, Drew McIntyre posted a video on social media stating that he was in England to attend a wedding and is now having travel issues getting back to the United States. This has put his SummerSlam match in jeopardy. The Scottish Warrior is set to team up with Logan Paul to take on Randy Orton and country music sensation, Jelly Roll. On last night’s episode of Monday Night Raw, the WWE announced that the match was still scheduled as planned when the announcers were running through the SummerSlam card. The Biggest Party of the Summer is set for August 2nd and 3rd, with the huge tag team match set for Saturday night. With the match only being five days away and with no new information about McIntyre’s status, who could the WWE use to replace McIntyre in this match?
One of the first wrestlers that comes to mind is The Miz. The two-time WWE Champion has had his fair share of run-ins with celebrities in the squared circle. He had a feud with Bad Bunny in 2021 that stretched to WrestleMania 37, and in 2022, he teamed with Paul at WrestleMania 38, before facing the former United States Champion in a singles match at SummerSlam in the same year. The eight-time Intercontinental Champion is a perfect heel, and he already has chemistry with Paul. The Miz has a reputation for being a hard worker and a guy who will do anything. Coming into a match with five days to prepare is something that he can handle. The Awesome One even posted a video on his social media stating that he wants in on this match if McIntyre is out.
Another option is Carmelo Hayes. The former NXT Champion is a solid worker and has put on fantastic matches since being drafted to the Blue brand. Hayes’s heel persona matches well with Paul, and the two can use dubious tactics to gain the advantage over RK-Roll. This is also another opportunity for Carmelo Hayes to get some of that PLE spotlight. The 2025 Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal winner is a young star on the rise and could use an opportunity like SummerSlam to show the WWE Universe and officials that he is a future star in this business.
Overall, McIntyre's status for the SummerSlam is still being determined. He could very well be cleared to travel in time to make it for the big event. However, if he does not, then the WWE has two great options on SmackDown that can be inserted to keep this match on the card. The Miz is a veteran who can work with anybody. Hayes is a guy who can use this platform to elevate himself even further. It is awful to think that the Scottish Warrior could miss SummerSlam, but if the WWE has to pivot, they have two stars who are heels and can finish the story they want to tell.
