Who Attacked ‘The Samoan Werewolf’?

WWE

On the October 17th edition of SmackDown, Jacob Fatu was slated to compete against Drew McIntyre in a number one contender’s match for Cody Rhodes’ WWE Championship. Before the match could even take place, Fatu was found backstage on the ground, bleeding from the mouth. McIntyre denied any wrongdoing and claimed himself as the winner of the encounter. Rhodes would then challenge McIntyre for the WWE Championship, ending the match on a disqualification. With Fatu set to be on the shelf for the next few months, one has to wonder who had the biggest motives in attacking Fatu and preventing him from earning a world championship match. Here are three superstars who could have potentially attacked Fatu backstage.

Drew McIntyre

McIntyre attacking Fatu before their match is the very obvious choice. The three-time world champion has felt robbed of every opportunity he’s had for a world title over the last year. After failing to win at Wrestlepalooza, McIntyre has shown over the past few weeks that he will stop at nothing to reach the top of the mountain once again. Fatu was also a member of the Bloodline at some point in his career, a faction that ‘The Scottish Warrior’ blames for costing him multiple opportunities. It’s a no-brainer to see why McIntyre might have attacked Fatu and forced his way to the front of the line, especially against someone who is involved with a group he despises.

Randy Orton

Randy Orton has had a long relationship with Rhodes, dating all the way back to their time in ‘Legacy’. For the past few months, Orton has been eyeing the WWE Championship that is currently held by Rhodes. Although Rhodes believes he has a friend in ‘The Apex Predator’, one cannot completely trust ‘The Viper’, as he will strike when you least expect it. Getting rid of Fatu might be the beginning of a journey where Orton will attack anyone standing in his way of pursuing another world title. Fatu is the first of a list of men who will take the fall when Orton potentially turns on Rhodes.

Cody Rhodes

What if Fatu’s attacker was someone we least expected? Rhodes has been showing off a bit of an edgier persona the last few months, claiming to be the face of the company that will lead it into the future. The WWE Champion getting himself disqualified in a championship match isn’t something he normally does, as he always preaches standing above the rest and defending the championship with honor. Maybe Rhodes finally realized that he has a huge target on his back from all directions and cannot trust anybody. Perhaps Rhodes is willing to go out of his own way and ensure that any incoming challengers are taken care of. If ‘The American Nightmare’ is starting to go down a darker path, attacking Fatu and preventing him from challenging for the WWE Championship is something he would definitely do.
