Who Could Be Another Acquisition to Replace a Former Saints Veteran Safety?
Have you ever been in a supervisory position in which you lost a good long-term employee? When you lose that employee who has been with you through good and bad times, you lose someone who can’t easily be replaced. You also know how the New Orleans Saints felt this week when the team lost 12-year veteran safety Tyrann Mathieu. Fortunately, this happened on Mr. Mathieu’s terms because he chose to retire from the league instead of joining a rival within the division. Signing a safety from another team over three months ago was a good strategy at the time, and now it is regarded as a fantastic decision. Here are some options for another safety to sign up to become a Saint.
Jordan Whitehead is currently playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His rookie year for the 2018 season was in Tampa Bay, where he played the position of strong safety. The following season, he would become a full safety and would remain as one on the Buccaneers for another the next three years. Mr. Whitehead’s four seasons would result in playing 59 games, in which he started in 52 of them. Jordan would have 222 solo tackles, assist with 70 tackles, and five hits to the quarterback. For the 2022 season as a full safety and the 2023 season as a strong safety, he would go up north to start and play 34 games for the New York Jets. During those two seasons, he would add to his stats 123 solo tackles, assist with 63 tackles, and one hit to the quarterback. For the recent season, Mr. Whitehead would return to Tampa Bay and again play as a full safety. The amounts of 49 solo tackles, assists with 30 tackles, and one hit to the quarterback would be acquired from starting and playing in 12 games.
Ronnie Harrison is currently playing for the Indianapolis Colts. His rookie year for the 2018 season was in Jacksonville, where he played the position of defensive back. The following season, he would become a full safety and would remain with the Jaguars. Mr. Harrison’s two seasons would result in playing 28 games, in which he started in 22 of them. Ronnie would have 68 solo tackles, assist with 35 tackles, and two hits to the quarterback. For the 2020 and 2021 seasons as a strong safety and the 2022 season as a defensive back, he would go to Cleveland and start 23 out of the 39 games for the Browns. During those three seasons, he would add to his stats 80 solo tackles, assists with 40 tackles, and three hits to the quarterback. For the 2023 and 2024 seasons, Mr. Harrison would go west to Indianapolis and play as a linebacker, then this recent season as a safety. The amounts of 13 solo tackles, assists with nine tackles, and one hit to the quarterback were acquired from starting in three of the 17 games he played.
