Who Is the ‘Megastar’s’ Opponent for the Last Time Is Now Tournament?
The John Cena retirement tour is nearing its final appearances, and everyone wants the chance to become Cena’s last opponent before he hangs up the boots. To determine who will have the honor of challenging Mr. Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect in his final match, WWE has announced an elimination bracket called The Last Time Is Now Tournament. A few names have already been revealed, including LA Knight. His opponent, however, has been kept as a surprise entrant. With rumors running rampant on who could participate in this tournament, here are three names that could be revealed as Knight’s opponent.
Gunther
Earlier this year, Gunther was tasked with facing Goldberg in his final WWE match, a World Heavyweight Championship bout that saw The Ring General successfully retain his title and close out Goldberg's career. Having Gunther retire another legend would not only elevate his legacy but also solidify him as one of WWE’s biggest stars. Out since SummerSlam due to injury, a surprise Gunther return makes perfect sense from a storyline perspective. Gunther should be the one to retire Cena; doing so would officially cement him as a modern-day legend killer.
Joe Hendry
Say his name, and he appears. Joe Hendry has been one of TNA’s biggest success stories in recent years. A clear fan-favorite, Hendry’s charisma and in-ring presence have made him a standout performer. With WWE teasing appearances from wrestlers outside the company, having Hendry enter the tournament would be a refreshing surprise. WWE could capitalize on his popularity after his memorable cameo appearances at the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania. The former TNA World Champion would benefit greatly from stepping into a WWE ring again, and possibly earning the opportunity to face Cena in the tournament’s final.
Matt Cardona
Another TNA superstar who could benefit from possibly becoming Cena’s final opponent is Matt Cardona. The former Zack Ryder was once close friends with Cena during his WWE run, and it’s no secret that Cardona wants to return to the company that helped make him a star. With their shared history, seeing Cena and Cardona face off one last time would be a treat for longtime fans. If Cardona were to win the tournament and defeat Cena in his farewell match, it would be a career-defining moment, one he could proudly carry for the rest of his career.
