Who to Watch During Giants OTAs
The New York Giants have a few busy weeks ahead of them. They have just started their OTA’s and several key players already have something that they have to prove to Big Blue in order to start on the field this coming season. All eyes are on them, and they know if they don’t pull through, they may see the trade block or the bench this coming season. Here are the top five players that definitely need to pull their weight during OTA’s. All eyes are focused on the offensive line.
1. Jalin Hyatt- Wide Receiver
Jalin Hyatt’s football career has been a challenge since the day he entered the NFL. He had a standout college career, but he has struggled during his playing time on the field. Now that Russell Wilson has entered the picture and is known for having deep-ball accuracy on the field, Hyatt had the opportunity to showcase himself. He can show his speed and running abilities. If he can give a strong performance during OTA’s, it will pull him up on the depth chart.
2. Evan Neal- Offensive Lineman
Evan Neal has faced plenty of difficulty during his time being a Giant. He struggled at right tackle, but they have moved him into the guard position for this coming season. They are trying to give him the chance before it’s too late and give him the leverage in his performance. If he can present adaptability and effectiveness in his new role, he may be a top player for this season.
3. Deonte Banks-Cornerback
Deonte Banks is entering his third year with the Giants. He is ready to rebound after last season. He could not pull through and give the Giants the coverage that they needed. Banks was promising, but with how badly he struggled, he landed himself on the bench in Week eight of last season when he missed a tackle on Najee Harris while playing against the Pittsburgh Steelers. With the Giants acquiring Paulson Adebo, he is going to alleviate some pressure, allowing Banks to refine and prove himself.
4. Daniel Bellinger- Tight End
Daniel Bellinger has his work cut out for him during OTAs with the increased competition in the tight end group. Bellinger suffered a decline in his offensive production last season. The tight end had only recorded 14 receptions for 125 yards, and, averaging 8.9 yards per catch, he did not score any touchdowns. He has to be assertive and show that he’s got what it takes to be a starter this coming season. His ability to contribute in both blocking and being a receiver is pivotal this coming season in making sure he’s secure on the Giants roster.
5. Devin Singletary- Running Back
Devin Singletary faces the challenge of maintaining his role. He needs to take the time and show his talents in the backfield and challenge the new and emerging talents. Singletary also needs to improve his ball security. With him having both the ability to run and be a receiver will be essential for him to remain a key component this coming season.
