Why a Jeff Cobb Signing is Important to the WWE
Ever since leaving New Japan Pro Wrestling, reports have surfaced that the next stop for Jeff Cobb would be the WWE. The Hawaiian Juggernaut would immediately join the main roster, joining a select few wrestlers who did not join NXT upon arriving at the company. Meaning that the WWE values the 42-year-old wrestler and wants him to hit the ground running. His name has reportedly been mentioned in creative circles, so it is only a matter of time before the former Imperial Unit makes his way to Raw or SmackDown. He is known for his incredible strength, athleticism, and versatility. Cobb is known for being a heel, and it would be a great time for the World Wide Leader in Sports Entertainment to introduce another villain to the roster after a string of babyface arrivals post-WrestleMania.
Now, Cobb posted on his Instagram that he was retiring, but it was with a very vague caption. Mr. Athletic posted a photo of himself standing in the ocean with his back turned to the camera. He captioned the photo saying, “16 years is a long time to work. Happy retirement to me. I’ll let the waves take me to my next destination.” A very cryptic post with all the rumors surrounding him, but I believe he is joking with wrestling fans and keeping his impending arrival to WWE under lock and key. Once he arrives, Cobb should be positioned as a heel. The roster is lacking in heel depth, and the 16-year pro could take over the spot that Kevin Owens left due to injury.
The Hawaiian Hulk could have feuds against baby faces such as Randy Orton or LA Knight on SmackDown or have feuds with Rusev and Sheamus on Raw. The possibilities are endless for the former NJPW star, and the popularity he had over in Japan could translate to the WWE. Cobb will be the second member of the United Empire that the WWE has reached out to sign with them, but after failing to get the Aerial Assassin, the WWE could get the juggernaut of the group. Jeff Cobb has the skills to make it big in the WWE and would be a significant addition to the roster due to the weight his name carries and the popularity and fanfare he would bring to the company.
