The New York Giants enter Week Seven with plenty of unanswered questions after a rocky game against the New Orleans Saints. They have had players out and others on the bench this past week. Giants running back Cam Skattebo was one of those players to sit on the bench in Week Six after a handful of fumbles in Week Five. One that nearly cost his team the game against the Washington Commanders. However, many questions remain about what happened to the team's star running back in this week's matchup. Another question is whether he will be on the field when the Giants take on Houston in Week Seven.
Skattebo did not get a single snap or carry in Week Six. The team rotated the running backs throughout this game. However, this young star barely saw anything. The fan favorite may have played only one or two snaps but didn't get the ball. The powerful ball carrier felt he was being punished for the errors he made the previous week. Head Coach John Harbaugh said the team, or he, wasn't punishing him, and he’s been questioned about his coaching style since. The Super Bowl-winning head coach also said Skattebo didn't fit the scheme he set up for this week.
New York has spent time piecing together many of the schemes they have needed this season. The former Arizona State has been part of many of those, but against the Giants this past week, he just didn’t have those plays. Harbaugh wanted to see something else. He wanted to see what his other running backs, such as Najee Harris and Devin Singletary, could do. Skattebo may get pushed back after this past weekend because of his errors.
The Giants' current head coach doesn't mess around. Skattebo has put in a lot of effort so far this season. However, the former Sun Devil hasn't broken through or come close to what this head coach wants. Harbaugh wants his team to make plays and be explosive when he needs them to. Big Blue's offensive playmaker has to prove himself in practice this week before Harbaugh lets him back on to play certain snaps again.
The Giants are trying to figure out what they are planning to do with their running back. Hopefully, he's learned his lesson about being ready and staying focused. Skattebo has a lot to work on, and he needs to cut down on fumbles. New York will keep him because he's a top-tier star; however, Harabugh will only put up with so much from this young star. If Skattebo has a decent week in practice, the Giants’ bruising back may start putting up numbers in Week Seven against Houston before New York enters its bye week.
