Why Should El Grande Americano Become the Next AAA Mega Champion?

WWE

At AAA Noche de los Grandes 2026, the fans witnessed one of the greatest stories ever to be on display in a wrestling ring when El Grande Americano competed against The Original El Grande Americano. The stakes were high as the loser of the match had to relinquish his mask and reveal his true identity. When it was all said and done, the OG Americano went down in defeat and had to take off his mask, revealing himself to be none other than Chad Gable. With El Grande Americano celebrating with his girlfriend and stable partners in the ring, he had finally capped off a year-long storyline that saw him rise in popularity with the Mexican crowd. Now that he has put Gable in the rearview mirror, it is only a matter of time before WWE puts the AAA Mega Championship on him.

Ludwig Kaiser’s rise to the top of the Mexican promotion as El Grande Americano has been nothing short of incredible, as his main roster run as Kaiser didn’t really have much of a direction to go alongside his best friend Gunther. However, an untimely injury by the OG Americano changed the landscape of the character, as Kaiser was asked to put on the mask and continue the luchador’s storyline. Kaiser not only got over with the crowd due to his charisma and work on the microphone, but also with his ability to raise the character’s worth to someone who was just more than a hater of luchadores. It might have seemed ridiculous to have someone as talented as Kaiser under a mask, but somehow, Kaiser just made it work. He didn’t need to remain under the shadow of Gunther; he was his own man now, and his rise would only go much higher once he finally made his way to AAA.

The American crowd might have cheered for El Grande Americano in the beginning, but the popularity behind the character seemingly started to die down. Once El Grande Americano arrived in AAA, that all changed. The Mexican faithful absolutely loved him, even when he had been depicted as the bad guy during his run on Raw. Once the crowd stood fully behind him, WWE really had no choice but to portray him as a ‘tecnico’ in Mexico. WWE even tried to put him with Dominik Mysterio to draw some heat, but the AAA fans had already decided that El Grande Americano was their hero. Although he was shown leave week by week, the true loyalty test would come when a certain luchador made his return to the ring following months out of action due to injury.

The OG Americano made his way back to WWE at Royal Rumble 2026, coming face-to-face with the man who supposedly stole his character. The next few months saw both men go after one another through sheer hate, and even though the OG Americano was receiving cheers in the U.S., it was a completely different story in Mexico. The OG Americano was greeted with boos and vulgar language thrown at him. What was once a simple character had transformed into one of the most hated characters in Mexico. Kaiser had not only made the character better, but had grown a huge following that no one could have expected. It was clear that this character could no longer work with Gable, and it needed to remain with Kaiser. After multiple brawls, AAA finally decided that both men needed to settle their feud once and for all, inside the ring and with a huge stipulation on the line. At AAA Noche de los Grandes, WWE was able to listen to the audience and gave El Grande Americano the victory over OG Americano. This decision left fans very happy, and now, with the OG Americano out of the way, the focus was on the world title.

Mysterio has held the gold for quite some time now, but has rarely defended it since winning it. Mysterio was very popular in AAA when he took the title off of El Hijo del Vikingo, but the past few months have seen his red-hot push slowly cool off, and now, with a new hero in AAA, the fans are eager to see El Grande Americano win the title as soon as possible. El Grande Americano’s popularity in AAA helped him earn a shot at the title after winning the Rey de Reyes Tournament. Unlike Mysterio’s booking, WWE has perfected El Grande Americano’s booking by listening to the fans and seeing in what direction they want the character to go. After the great performance he put up against OG Americano and receiving the highest star rating from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter in WWE history, it just makes sense that WWE should reward all his hard work with AAA’s top title.
