Why the Cowboys Are Confident in Their Season Opener Versus Super Bowl Champions

NFL

This NFL season, fans are given the chance to watch one of the best rivalries in sports, with the Dallas Cowboys taking on the defending Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles. Around the NFL world, this matchup seems like the perfect opportunity to see the Cowboys get beaten on national television, but it couldn’t be more opposite on the Dallas side. The Cowboys have been instilled with a new sense of confidence this offseason with new player acquisitions and coaching changes. These new changes towards the whole roster and one certain returning player are what help the Cowboys believe they can win the season opener.

New Offense and Defense

With a new offense, the Cowboys hope for an extremely better turnout compared to last season. Obviously, the big-name addition of George Pickens will expand this offense to heights Dallas saw for years with Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb. The offensive line is another area that is young and exciting. With the new offensive coordinator, Klayton Adams, who is an offensive line and run game specialist, this offense can be elite enough to protect Dak Prescott and create a great run game. The defense will also look to return to their style of creating and looking for turnovers as often as they can with new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, which Dallas excelled at under Dan Quinn.

Healthy Dak

Despite the critiques of Prescott, his resume against the NFC East is undeniable. Prescott has a 32-8 record throughout his whole career and a 9-4 record against Philadelphia. While it is also not a quarterback vs. quarterback sport, Dak is 2-1 when both he and Jalen Hurts have been healthy. Now Prescott isn’t the answer for guaranteed victory; his play keeps a game against the reigning Super Bowl champions in their home field close until the end. With him playing, the Cowboys have high expectations that they can play against any team in the NFL this year, and with new additions across the team, the Cowboys believe they can beat the Eagles in Week One.
