Why the Giants Defense Could Crack the Top 10 in 2025

NFL

The New York Football Giants are entering the 2025 season with a bigger and badder defensive line. They have got all of the tools that they are going to need to become a top-10 defense. The Giants also gained a new defensive coordinator, Shane Bowen, and so far, the team has really been turned around with him during this offseason. Bowen has already made sure that this defensive line has taken a more aggressive identity. In all areas of the defensive line, the Giants are thriving. The front seven, in particular in New York, looks like they are ready to dominate this coming season.

It starts with edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux coming into the new season after having a breakout year last season. He is paired up with pass rusher Brian Burns, and the two of them have already built one of the best edge rusher tandems in the league. Last season, they did well together, making all of the stops. The two of them have worked well together and pushed through to make sure that New York will try to be on top. It has shown at OTAs so far and will continue during the training camps.

Defensive Lineman Dexter Lawrence has returned after being out for several games last season due to injury. He has always been able to collapse pockets and create mismatches for his opponents. An area where the Giants have always strived in. The more recent additions of the young depth pieces have also helped build upon the defensive line, and a lot more potential to make those stops this coming season. Behind that group is a stronger and more sustainable group ready to make things happen on the field. Linebacker Bobby Okereke remains a steady leader. There is also the new steady presence of Abdul Carter. The Penn State standout has already turned heads in the Giants' practices with his athleticism, instincts, and explosiveness. It has put the Giants' defensive lines in one of the top ranges of the NFL defenses for this coming season. This rookie is building a major role early on.

The Giants also have added more bodies, such as Paulson Abedo, another big signing during the offseason. He was a former top player with the Saints last season. Many of these players are exactly what the Giants have been looking for and have found in their rebuild. Big Blue has done a good job of making sure that they can make the stops happen this season. Last season, they rarely had any and were one of the biggest downfalls in the modern NFL defensive lines.

The 2025 group is a little bit younger, faster, and ready for action. They also have core veterans who are anchoring every level. The Giants' defense is well built all around. These guys also know how to respond and communicate to bring the pressure on their opponents. If this defensive line can stay healthy and follow through with Bowen's attacking scheme, the Giants have a real shot to finish as a top-10 defense and give the team the playoff run that they have needed in the past several years.
