Why the Jaguars Are Red Hot at the Right Time
The Jacksonville Jaguars are entering their biggest matchup of the year in Week 14 against the Indianapolis Colts. In a battle for first place in the AFC South, there are enormous playoff implications at stake for Duval County. Thankfully for Jacksonville fans, the Jaguars are playing their best football at this point in the season. Following three straight wins, the Jaguars are averaging their best offensive output yet. Two blowout wins over the Los Angeles Chargers and Tennessee Titans proved that the offense can still put up points when it matters, with quarterback Trevor Lawrence turning around his turnover problems and keeping the passing game afloat. The running back room led by veteran Travis Etienne Jr. and rookie Bhayshul Tuten continues to produce in the red zone, with Etienne closing in on another 1,000-yard rushing season. The new addition at the trade deadline, Jakobi Meyers, continues to perform for this injury-riddled offense, including a 90-yard game against the Titans.
The defense continues to come around for Jacksonville, as well. The leader and veteran, Josh Hines-Allen, had a two-sack performance against the Titans and another against the Chargers. Linebacker Devin Lloyd and cornerback Montaric Brown continue to put up huge tackle numbers alongside veteran Foye Oloukun. The defense has continued to hold opposing offenses to limited numbers in recent weeks, including a combined nine points allowed against the Titans and Chargers. Although they had a disappointing performance against the Arizona Cardinals, they have still maintained their momentum into the latter half of the season.
For Jacksonville, you couldn’t ask for a better time to get hot than right now. With two games remaining against the 8-4 Colts, the Jaguars can put themselves in a prime position to host a playoff game in Duval County. Head Coach Liam Coen has put this team in a prime position to make a run in Jacksonville, one that was promised to fans when he became the leader, to have a competitive organization again with owner Shahid Khan and general manager James Gladstone. After a hot start to the year and a rocky middle, expect Jacksonville to go on another hot run to end the season and make a push for the Super Bowl in a wide-open AFC Conference.
