Will Fer López Make a Big Impact at Wolves?

After a quick start to the summer with several players leaving, Wolves have finally made their first big signing, Fer López from Celta Vigo. The 21-year-old midfielder played a key role in helping Celta qualify for the Europa League. He reportedly has a release clause of around £17 million, though Wolves are expected to pay closer to £20 million. This move will hopefully be the first of many as Wolves look to strengthen the squad and fight to stay in the Premier League.

Wolves have already parted ways with several key players this summer, including Matheus Cunha and Rayan Aït-Nouri. They have also lost Pablo Sarabia and Craig Dawson, with Nelson Semedo likely to follow. That puts added pressure on Fer López to make an immediate impact. With Jørgen Strand Larsen expected to lead the line, López will need to build chemistry with his new teammates and quickly adapt to Vítor Pereira’s system. He is no longer playing in La Liga. He is now in the Premier League, the most competitive league in the world.

With Cunha and Aït-Nouri gone, Wolves are in need of a true playmaker, and that is where Fer López comes in. He has all the technical ability, creativity, and most importantly, the confidence to take on that role. Players like Cunha and Aït-Nouri never hesitated, and in a league as demanding as the Premier League, you simply cannot. López may be young, but he has that spark Wolves have been missing. He will bring much-needed energy through the middle and help create chances the team has not seen in a while.

So far this season, López has made 17 La Liga appearances for Celta, starting seven of them, and he has scored twice in the league. He also earned minutes in the Copa del Rey, scoring twice in Celta’s 5–1 win over Salamanca. Throughout the season, he showed quality on the ball, smart touches, and steady improvement. Now at Wolves, he will likely get more minutes and the chance to develop even faster.

Even though López is still young, he has the potential to make a big impact at Wolves. The club has a strong history of turning young players into stars, with Rayan Aït-Nouri being a prime example. Now that both Aït-Nouri and Cunha are gone, there is space for a new talent to rise. López has a chance to prove himself, and sometimes that is all a player needs.
