Will the 2026 Hurricanes QB Break Bo Nix’s 2023 Completion Percentage Record?
Back in 2023, as a member of the Oregon Ducks, Bo Nix made NCAA Football history by passing Mac Jones’ record for the highest completion percentage at 77.45%. However, that record could very well be broken again in 2026. Through four games, Miami Hurricanes quarterback Darian Mensah has completed 88.7% of his passes, going 94 for 106. The 21-year-old has shined in Miami’s first four games of the season, and if that continues, he could continue being a contender, making their case for the 2026 Heisman Trophy.
Mensah has a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 14-0. He’s already thrown for over 1,200 passing yards and averages a little bit more than 300 passing yards a game. The 21-year-old has looked incredible for the Hurricanes and is clearly excelling in Miami’s program. Mensah already looked like a Heisman Trophy favorite after his Week Three performance against Wake Forest. However, the big question is whether he can continue to be the most accurate quarterback in all of college football for the rest of the 2026 season.
Miami has eight more games on their schedule against Florida State, Pittsburgh, UNC, Notre Dame, Duke, Virginia Tech, and Boston College. The only ranked team that they’ll play is Notre Dame, yet that doesn’t mean Mensah won’t have a bad game or the Hurricanes won’t lose. Of course, the Fighting Irish will pose a threat to both Miami’s quarterback’s record and the team’s undefeated streak, but you also must keep an eye on other undefeated teams such as Pittsburgh, Duke, and Virginia Tech. You can’t forget about rival Florida State, who certainly want revenge after being out-dueled 28-22 last season.
All these teams are going to aim at taking down Mensah as the most accurate quarterback in all of college football. Yet, the 21-year-old QB still has a chance to break Nix’s record. With Malachi Toney as one of the best receivers, if not the best receiver in college football, this dynamic duo can continue to be elite. Having a target such as Toney, who can hurt teams in so many ways, can help Mensah break the record. The 21-year-old also has receiver Cooper Barkate at his disposal, who hasn’t made that much of an impact this season, but was a huge force alongside Mensah at Duke a season ago. Although Miami lost running back CharMar Brown and receiver Josh Moore, they still have key pieces in Elija Lofton and Daylyn Upshaw. With his confidence at a sky-high level and eight more games to go, Mensah has a chance to break the record and be the most accurate quarterback in college football history if he continues to follow the Hurricanes’ offensive scheme, gets the football thrown in the right direction for his targets, and plays it smart with the football in his hands, the 21-year-old Mensah could be on his way to winning a Heisman Trophy.
