Will the TNA World Champion Betray Team NXT at ShowDown?
On the September 30th episode of NXT, the matchups were set for next week’s, 'ShowDown" TV special, which will feature NXT taking on TNA. Both captains of NXT and TNA made their picks for their teams for the Survivor Series-style matchups that will occur next Tuesday. On the men’s side, representing NXT will be the team captain, NXT Champion Ricky Saints, the TNA World Champion Trick Williams, Je’Von Evans, and Myles Borne. Representing TNA will be the team captain, Mike Santana, Moose, the TNA X-Division Champion, Leon Slater, and the TNA International Champion, Frankie Kazarian. On the NXT side, there was a debate about who the last member should have been, but there was also an attempted power grab by the TNA Champion that fans noticed, and it did not sit well with the NXT Champion. Throughout the night, Williams declared that he was the official co-captain of Team NXT and wanted to decide who would be the final member of Team NXT. This did not sit well with Saints, as the newly crowned NXT Champion dismissed Williams' notion that he was co-captain of the team. The WWE doesn’t just plant seeds or tease feuds for nothing, and if this is any indication, then it is possible that Trick Williams would betray Team NXT next week just to pull a fast one on the former North American Champion, which would lead to a program between these two NXT superstars.
It makes sense as right now Ricky needs a challenger, and Trick is the top heel on the Silver and Black brand. Costing Team NXT the match would be the first step in a program between the current NXT Champion and a former two-time NXT Champion, who is still looking to reclaim that championship. The next step would be at Bound For Glory, a TNA PPV, where in the main event, Williams would defend the TNA World Championship against Santana. Now is the time for a TNA superstar to reclaim the company’s top prize from an outsider, and the momentum is behind the New York native to reclaim the gold. Just imagine after costing Team NXT the victory at ShowDown, Williams loses the TNA World Championship due to an assist from Saints. Now that Williams has lost his title, he would want to take the NXT Championship from the New Orleans native. This would set the stage for two of NXT’s popular stars to fight it out for NXT’s top prize.
Williams has flourished since turning heel and has shown great depths in his character. His heel character is obsessed with winning championships and is solely focused on him getting to the top and staying there. While ‘The Absolute’ is the new kid on the block who got to the top at one of the fastest times in NXT history and proved everyone wrong when he conquered the unconquerable. The man formerly known as Ricky Starks built a reputation for himself outside of WWE, that when he was a free agent, the Worldwide Leader in Sports Entertainment had to put him on their roster. Betraying someone is one thing, but to turn your back on your company for your own selfish reasons is another. Yet, it is the perfect way to kickstart a feud between ‘The Absolute’ and the Leader of the Whoop That Trick Era.
