Will This Former Miami Dolphin Cornerback Become a New Orleans Saint?
After helping his former team as offensive coordinator win the recent Super Bowl, it’s no surprise that the New Orleans Saints head coach wants to take another team to the Super Bowl. Since being hired for the job in February of this year, it appears that Kellen Moore is determined to prove that he is capable of what future Hall-of-Fame coaches Don Shula and Andy Reid have done. Regardless of the team, he has the mindset to assemble, train, and inspire a group toward a winning season. Although the 2025 Draft is over, there are still some positions that require attention and others that should be re-examined. Their defense, led by veteran Saint Cameron Jordan, has demonstrated to be strong enough to prevent points from being scored, but could also use some additional help. Cornerback Jalen Ramsey, after recently agreeing to part ways with the Miami Dolphins, could be one of those players on Kellen’s radar.
Ramsey began his NFL career in 2016 when he was drafted in the first round and fifth overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He would play and start as a cornerback during the team’s initial game of the season against the Green Bay Packers and follow that game with 15 additional plays and starts. For that season and the three additional seasons with the Jaguars as a right cornerback, left cornerback, and defensive back, he would go on to rack up 182 solo tackles, 28 assists on tackles, and one QB hit. In October of 2019, Jalen was traded to the Los Angeles Rams, where he would play 57 games, 56 of them over four seasons as a right cornerback. He would improve his stats compared to those while in Jacksonville with 193 solo tackles, 49 assists on tackles, and four QB hits. In March of 2023, he was traded to the Miami Dolphins, where he continues to be on their roster. In his two seasons as their cornerback and left cornerback, he has already acquired 57 solo tackles, 25 assists on tackles, and four QB hits.
From his stats over nine seasons, this 30-year-old has shown that he could be a valuable asset to any team. Although he isn’t within the 23 to 27-year-old age range that Kellen Moore has been seeking for his incoming players, Jalen does have experience with three teams in different divisions. Current starting cornerbacks Kool-Aid McKinstry and Alontae Taylor and still considered new in the league with a combined four years in the NFL, which is why the team needs a veteran player in that position. Mr. Moore’s current and most important task is to find those men who will be on the field starting in September and make sure they will have the talent to perform, which Jalen Ramsey has already proven. Perhaps adding his experience with that of Cam Jordan will solidify their reputation as one of the league’s best defensive lines.
