Yankees Win 35th Game of the 2026 Season After Blowing Out the Athletics
After a 7-0 win and a sweep against the Kansas City Royals, the New York Yankees looked to continue their win streak in Sacramento as they took on the Athletics. This one was nearly over before it started as the Bronx Bombers gathered four runs in the first inning off former Yankees starter Luis Severino. New York would collect another four runs to go on and take an 8-2 win on the road. The Yankees’ win streak moves up to five games, and they’ll look to keep that going after their next two outings against the A’s. Ryan Weathers takes the mound for New York in the second game of this series and will look to stay on the same positive trend he had in his last start against Tampa Bay on May 24th, when he didn’t allow a run in seven innings.
Ben Rice Is a 2026 All-Star
During the win on Friday night, Ben Rice went three for five with a home run and two RBIs. This season in 52 games, the 27-year-old has recorded 17 home runs and 39 RBIs. Last year, in 138 games, Rice recorded 26 home runs and 65 RBIs. He will most likely get close to or break those numbers he put up in half the time during the 2026 season. There shouldn’t be any doubt that the 27-year-old should be selected for the MLB All-Star Game, marking his first appearance as an all-star. Rice has provided offense whether his teammates have been involved or not, and that’s key for someone who was not viewed this way before the season started.
Rodón Picks Up a Big First Win of the 2026 Season
Carlos Rodón started the 2026 season with a 0-2 record, not what the three-time all-star intended for how his year would start after being on the injured list at the start of the season. The 33-year-old pitched six innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out three A’s. While we’ve seen him pitch better than this in the past, it’s not a bad start to get your first win as the offense dominated, and Rodón did not have to worry about a no-decision or a loss. His next potential start would be the third game of a three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday, June 4th. A second consecutive win, especially against the team leading the AL Central, would give the 33-year-old a ton of confidence moving throughout the 2026 season.
