2023 NBA Champion Signs Training Camp Contract with the 26-27 Knicks
It has been reported by Shams Charania that 2023 NBA Champion forward Bruce Brown has signed a training camp contract with the New York Knicks. Over the past two days, the Knicks have been busy trying to max out their roster by signing Brown and, on Tuesday, former Memphis Grizzlies and Utah Jazz shooting guard John Konchar. New York has yet to sign a third-string center, which they may desperately need for the upcoming season. Charania tweeted that the Knicks have two open roster spots and will have Brown, Konchar, Drew Eubanks, and others compete for the final regular-season roster spots.
Brown has been a journeyman since entering the league as the 42nd overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons. The 30-year-old played two seasons in Detroit before being traded to the Brooklyn Nets in a three-team deal. After another two seasons, during the 2022 free agency period, Brown signed with the Denver Nuggets. It was in Denver that he would help the Nuggets win their first NBA Championship, with the 30-year-old forward playing a huge role in Games Four and Five of the NBA Finals.
The 2023 NBA Champion forward would get paid following the Nuggets’ championship run by signing a two-year 45 million deal with the Indiana Pacers. Brown would see an increased role in Indiana, becoming a starter; however, after a season and a half with the Pacers, the 2023 NBA Champion would be part of a package deal that saw him, two players, and three first-round picks go to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Pascal Siakam. The 30-year-old would be traded once again as part of another star deal after spending a season and a half in Toronto. This time, he and Kelly Olynyk would go to the New Orleans Pelicans for Brandon Ingram. During the 2025 offseason, Brown signed with the Nuggets, returning to the team for his second stint and playing all 82 games last season.
Last season, the 30-year-old averaged eight points, four rebounds, two assists, and a steal in 24 minutes a game. He shot 49 percent from the field and 39 percent from beyond the arc. On February 19th, in a 115-114 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, Brown recorded 19 points, five rebounds, and six assists, shooting six of nine from the floor. The 2023 NBA Champion can be a valuable asset to the Knicks, but that depends on how he shows up at training camp. Brown will need to show the flashes of what he did to help the Nuggets win it all; New York needs all the confidence that they can run it back and repeat.
