2026 Yankees Lose Sixth Straight and Fourth Consecutive Series

MLB

The New York Yankees’ struggles have been creeping in right before the all-star break. They’ve lost their sixth straight game during a horrendous 9-3 blowout to the Detroit Tigers. This second straight loss against the Tigers means New York has lost their fourth consecutive series, which started with being swept during their series against the Cincinnati Reds that began June 19th. Now, the Yankees will have to hope starting pitcher Will Warren can throw a solid outing while the offense looks to stop the drought in their afternoon game in the final matchup in their series against Detroit.

Only Three Yankees Recorded Hits

During the loss, only three Yankees recorded hits, which is inexcusable. Ben Rice homered in the bottom of the first, and then it wasn’t until the ninth when Jasson Domínguez recorded an RBI single and Anthony Volpe singled on a line drive to right field. New York needs more help offensively if they plan on even competing with the Tampa Bay Rays for the AL East Division. On Monday, when the Yankees lost their fifth straight game, they also only had three hits. It’s going to take a lot more from the offense if they want to even try to break out of this drought.

Schlittler’s 40-Pitch First Inning

Yankees starting pitcher Cam Schlittler came into Tuesday’s game still holding the American League’s best ERA. However, the 25-year-old will allow four home runs in four innings on the mound. During the first inning, Schlittler could have finished the inning throwing just nine pitches, but a dropped ball that led to a home run by outfielder Spencer Jones changed everything. By allowing multiple homers in the first, the Massachusetts native increased his pitch count to 40, and by the fourth inning came around, Schlittler’s night was finished. After the game, the 25-year-old said, “I got ahead a lot in the first, just didn’t execute with two strikes. For a team that likes to put the ball in the air off fastballs, I just didn’t get the job done. I just didn’t make the right pitches when it mattered.” Hopefully, he’ll continue to dominate the mound in his next start.
