2026 Yankees Sweep Red Sox in First Meeting of the Season

MLB

The New York Yankees won their sixth straight game and swept the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night at Fenway Park. New York claims their 16th win of the season, holding a two and a half game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East and a two-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians with the best record in the American League. The Yankees will now head to Houston, Texas, to take on the Astros for the first game of a three-game series starting Friday night. Will Warren is set to start on the mound against Houston Friday night. He’ll look to earn his third win of the season and remain undefeated.

‘Belli’ Helps the Team After Losing Hitting Streak

During the Yankees’ 4-2 win on Thursday night, Cody Bellinger went one for two with a two-run single in the top of the seventh to give the Bronx Bombers a 3-2 lead. This comes after ‘Belli’ lost his nine-game hitting streak the night before when New York won their fifth straight game. After a bad outing on Wednesday, the 2019 NL MVP was able to come back, perform, and have a big night. Hopefully, ‘Belli’ can work up another hitting streak after his huge hit in Thursday’s win.

Schlittler Showed Out in Front Of His Friends & Family

Yankees starting pitcher Cam Schlittler is from Walpole, Massachusetts, growing up a Red Sox fan. Yet today, he pitched on the mound as a member of Boston’s biggest rival. In the win, Schlittler pitched eight innings, allowing one run on four hits and a walk while striking out five batters. It’s safe to say the 25-year-old starter showed out in front of his friends and family. Perhaps this outing changed the minds of friends and family about switching teams to support.

One Rival Down, One More Still Hanging

With the Bronx Bombers sweeping the Red Sox, that’s one rival down and one more still left hanging in the Astros. Houston has struggled with a 10-16 record and is at the bottom of the AL West Division. Another series win, or a potential sweep, would do wonders for this Yankees team’s confidence. New York has their eyes on the team they dueled with in the MLB Playoffs numerous times throughout the past decade. The Yankees will look to extend the winning streak and get revenge on a franchise they despise.
