28-Year-Old Former San Francisco 49ers Star Signs Deal with the Minnesota Vikings
After a breakout season for the San Francisco 49ers in 2024, Jauan Jennings sealed a two-year contract extension worth up to $15.4 million with $10.5 million guaranteed for his 975 receiving yards and six touchdowns. Former Tennessee Volunteers star finished the 2025 season with 55 receptions for 643 yards and nine touchdowns, entering unrestricted free agency. After two seasons of solid statistical production for the 49ers, Jennings has solidified himself as a reliable target man for any NFL team looking for a physical slot receiver. As a cornerstone of the 49ers' offense, Shanahan and the front office looked to re-sign the talented receiver entering the 2026 free agency period to hopefully revamp the offense after being blown out in the NFC Divisional Round against the Seattle Seahawks.
However, as Jennings decided on his future in the NFL with multiple teams seeking his services and the 49ers rumored to re-sign the wide receiver, it became increasingly unlikely that Jennings would be returning to the Bay Area. Now, it has been reported that the 28-year-old has agreed to sign with the Minnesota Vikings to a one-year deal worth up to $13 million. Jennings' success story has been nothing short of a roller-coaster ride. Yet, he has deservedly earned the multi-million dollar deal after battling roster cuts, injuries, and position-switching through different stages of his career.
Jauan Jennings was a four-star prospect coming out of high school, well-known as a dual-threat quarterback at Blackman High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Throughout four years at Tennessee, he racked up 146 receptions, 2,153 yards, and 18 touchdowns, entering the Volunteers' history books as top five ranked for each category listed. As a result, Jennings would end up being drafted by the 49ers in the seventh round, 217th overall, of the 2020 NFL Draft. Despite dealing with injuries and inconsistency earlier in his NFL career, Jennings has fought an uphill battle to solidify a spot on an NFL roster and will look to showcase his talents with Minnesota going into next season.
Currently standing at six-foot-three, Jennings physical stature earned him different roles in San Francisco’s dynamic offense and the nickname ‘Third and Juan.’ Utilized primarily as a slot receiver, the Niners had recognized his incredible value as a blocker with his large frame, often utilizing him as a primary point of attack for the 49ers' run scheme. The swiss-knife of the Niners offense, Jennings also served as a reliable target when they needed to convert a crucial third down or be a jump-ball threat in the red zone. His incredible versatility and willingness to adapt to different situations and offenses are valuable traits for every team, helping him earn his well-deserved $13 million contract with the Vikings heading into the 2026 season.
