Five Potential Tag Team Partners for Fan-Favorite Wrestler at Backlash in 2026
Backlash is coming up this Saturday at the Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida. One of the bigger questions going into the PLE is who Danhausen finds for a tag team partner. He, The Miz, and Kit Wilson have been entangled in an entertaining feud over the past few weeks. Danhausen asked SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis to help find him a mentor to help him become some sort of champion in the company. The two-time Grand Slam Champion happened to be in the vicinity. Both men walked up to Miz, who was talking on the phone about how none of the younger stars were appreciative of his body of work and potential advice he could offer as someone who’s won nearly every title in the company a man could win. Miz and Danhausen’s first interaction was far from normal. Miz was dismissive of the new superstar, getting warned by said superstar that he’d be cursed if he didn’t help. Miz’s life slowly began to unravel as Danhausen grew in popularity. His disdain for what he viewed as WWE’s new shiny toy continued to grow as the weeks went on. Miz instead started mentoring another rising star in Kit Wilson. This made Danhausen upset, and he cursed both Miz and Wilson. Miz’s and Wilson’s lives continued to get worse, furthering their disdain towards the ‘Temu Dracula’. The angle reached a climax this past Friday, where the two-time Grand Slam Champion agreed to mentor WWE’s top merchandise seller before the man who calls most men in the WWE ‘toxic’ walked out to interrupt. Miz shook Danhausen’s hand as if he picked him over Wilson, but as the latter was doing the ‘You Are Cursed’ pose, Miz blindsided him and looked at Wilson as if this was their premeditated plan. Danhausen found Aldis in the back shortly after and made a demand to fight Miz and Kit at Backlash. The SmackDown general manager agreed only if Danhausen could find a partner before Backlash. Here are five potential tag team partners for the future WWE Hall of Famer.
CM Punk
Danhausen and CM Punk are known to be tight friends behind the scenes. Both worked in AEW at the same time before popping up in WWE over the past several years. It has been rumored that ‘Pepsi Phil’ advocated for Danhausen to join the WWE, and this has arguably been WWE’s best signing in a long time. There have been quite a few social media skits of the two doing the most random and funny things, from poster signings to driving a golf cart at WrestleMania 42. Danhausen even refused to curse A.J. Lee, Punk’s wife, for Becky Lynch. Punk has nothing important to do while WWE Champion Cody Rhodes is out with his eye injury. This could be an entertaining detour and a potential source of a Punk heel turn should they tag for an extended period of time, should WWE want a traditional babyface-monster heel dynamic between ‘Corey’ and ‘Pepsi Phil’.
Jelly Roll
Celebrities have always been a part of the WWE, but there haven’t been as many celebrities involved with the company as there have been now. Today’s celebrities have been a lot more giving and dedicated to the craft of professional wrestling and sports entertainment. One of those people is Jelly Roll. He’s been booked as an underdog that fans want to see do well whenever he’s onscreen. He’s only wrestled two matches so far; he took the pin in his debut match, and his second match was a victory over Kit Wilson with a chokeslam before entering the whole Cody Rhodes-Randy Orton disaster of a feud. ‘Jelly Jam’ could take the pin in this matchup should he be a part of it to protect the other wrestlers in the match.
IShowSpeed
IShowSpeed has had a rough start to his WWE career. He’s been RKO’d at WrestleMania through the announcement table while dressed as a PRIME bottle. He was speared in half by Bron Breakker at the Royal Rumble in 2025. Earlier this year, Danhausen cursed him for not agreeing to post content with him or give him the password to his social media platforms. This led the streamer to accidentally hit L.A. Knight with brass knuckles, forcing him to align with Austin Theory and fellow influencer Logan Paul. He eventually lost at WrestleMania 42 before turning on The Vision and turning babyface. Speed could be looking for Danhausen to uncurse him. Offering his help in a match against Miz and Kit could help the streamer get uncursed.
R-Truth
It’s amazing how little time it took for Danhausen to be on a similar level to comedy characters like Santino Marella and R-Truth. Truth has been one of the few wrestlers in WWE who has welcomed Danhausen with open arms. Misinterpreting Danhausen for Asuka, Truth offered Miz and Kit a shot at the SmackDown Tag Team Titles against himself and Damian Priest since he felt bad they had been cursed by ‘Asuka’. ‘Asuka’ came in during the middle of the match and reached out for a tag from the person he wanted as his mentor. When Miz refused, Truth saw an opportunity to tag in ‘Asuka’ in a match he wasn’t legally in and did so, becoming the funniest segment of WWE in 2026. WWE’s top merchandise seller could very well be on his way to gaining the title of greatest comedic wrestler of all time. WWE fans could see Truthhausen at Backlash as a way for Truth to pass the torch down to Danhausen or potentially start a new storyline with WWE’s top merchandise seller post-Backlash.
Kit Wilson
We have seen this scenario play out before, just not in a very long time. In 2008, a young Cody Rhodes and Hardcore Holly were the Tag Team Champions heading into Night of Champions. Their opponents were Ted DiBiase, Jr., and an unknown partner to be revealed right before the match. ‘The Million Dollar Man’s son pleaded with the referee to wait 10 more minutes for his partner to appear, but the ref wasn’t having it. The ref threatened to forfeit the match entirely, so Dibiase, Jr. had no choice but to start the match. Rhodes started in the ring with him. He called for Rhodes to tag in Holly. Rhodes obliged, but shortly after, Rhodes attacked Holly from behind. This solidified Rhodes’ heel turn. Rhodes tagged DiBiase, Jr. One Dream Street later, Rhodes and DiBiase, Jr. became the new WWE Tag Team Champions and formed Legacy. WWE could call back to this 16 years later, but do the inverse. Kit Wilson has gained popularity since the debut of his titantron and his new entrance music. Fans have clamored for Toxichausen since Danhausen and Wilson started interacting in backstage promos. Wilson has teased a face turn during his time being cursed, and Backlash could be an unexpected time to pull the trigger on the turn.
