31-Year-Old Veteran Tight End Reaches Deal to Return to the Eagles

NFL

Despite a disappointing ending to the Philadelphia Eagles’ 2025 season, which saw them eliminated in the NFC Wild Card Round at home against the San Francisco 49ers, veteran tight end Dallas Goedert was not one of the reasons why Philadelphia’s season came to an end. Through eight seasons, Goedert has proven himself to be a reliable security blanket target within the Eagles’ offense, ultimately making him a valuable asset entering free agency this offseason. With rumors swirling around the NFL Combine that Goedert was unlikely to re-sign with the Eagles and would instead look to find a new home elsewhere, the 31-year-old’s talents were expected to draw significant interest from teams seeking improvement at tight end. However, it has now been revealed that the Eagles and Goedert have agreed to a one-year deal, providing the veteran with the opportunity to continue being the security blanket within Philadelphia’s offense in 2026.

Since being drafted by the Eagles in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Goedert has steadily produced throughout his career. Over eight seasons, he has recorded 409 receptions for 4,676 receiving yards and 35 touchdown catches. On top of that, Goedert has proven reliable in the postseason, recording 100-plus receiving yards in two playoff appearances in 2022 and 2024, which contributed to Philadelphia capturing Super Bowl LIX against the Kansas City Chiefs. The South Dakota native has never previously reached the free agent market, as he signed a four-year contract extension in 2021 following his early-career success and consistent production. Now, after re-signing with the Eagles, Goedert is anticipated to continue to make a significant impact on Philly’s offensive success in 2026.

In his eighth season in Philadelphia a year ago, Goedert delivered a career year, recording a career-high 60 receptions for 591 yards and a personal-best 11 touchdown catches. His 11 touchdown receptions set a franchise record for most touchdowns by an Eagles tight end in a single season, surpassing Pete Retzlaff’s previous mark of 10 set in 1965. As Goedert heads into next season with the Eagles, he will look to build off his breakout performance while helping Philadelphia pursue postseason success. With Goedert’s veteran presence in the locker room, he is expected to make a tremendous impact on team chemistry while navigating the ups and downs of an NFL season.
