A.D. Mitchell, Special Teams Shine in New York Jets Win Over Atlanta Falcons

NFL

The New York Jets are still fighting. Despite 2025 being all but a lost season, the team continues to battle week in and week out. This week, in a rainy and cold game where they easily could have lain down against a superior roster, the team pulled out a gutsy win that was capped by a 56-yard field goal by 41-year-old Nick Folk. While the team may not accomplish much more this season, they’re creating plenty to build on in 2026 and beyond.

A.D. Mitchell Breaks Out

A.D. Mitchell has been flashing his ability throughout his short time with the Jets, but hasn’t truly had his moment yet. That all changed on Sunday, when the second-year receiver caught eight passes for 102 yards, including a 52-yard bomb from Tyrod Taylor that tied the game in the third quarter. Mitchell is part of a young, reworked receiving corps for the Jets, and his breakout is something that is much appreciated by the Jets with the absence of star receiver Garrett Wilson. If Mitchell continues to build on this performance, a player who was originally an afterthought in the Sauce Gardner trade could turn out to be a long-term piece for New York

Jets Special Teams Unit is Elite

The Jets haven’t had a lot of things go consistently well throughout the season, but their special teams unit is one of the few year-long bright spots on the team. Chris Banjo’s side of the ball arguably won the Jets the game on Sunday, as they racked up big play after big play against Atlanta. Austin McNamara has been one of the best punters in the league in his rookie season, and had multiple great punts again today. His biggest play was his boot after the Jets’ three-and-out late in the fourth quarter, where he sent the ball from the Jets’ endzone to the 30-yard line of the Falcons. This, following a stand by the Jets’ defense, resulted in the Falcons being unable to get a field goal at the end of the game and punting it back to the Jets, who drove down the field and nailed a 56-yard game-winning field goal with Nick Folk, another special teamer who has been excellent this season. The Jets also recovered a muffed punt, as well as had an 83-yard return from their excellent return man, Isaiah Williams, which set up a game-tying field goal in the fourth quarter. The Jets’ special teams unit is truly among the best in the league, and first-year coordinator Chris Banjo has to be loving what he has seen this season.
