Alpine's Unfortunate Place in the Constructors' Standing
The Alpine Formula 1 team has certainly faced a difficult season so far, leaving them at the bottom of the Team Championships, also known as the Constructors’ Standings. They are currently claiming only 19 points and are in 10th place, with Haas 10 points away from the men in blue and pink. Things with the team have been rocky from the start. There was a driver switch early in the season with the replacement of Jack Doohan by Franco Colapinto, leaving the Australian rookie as a reserve driver. It has been revealed recently that the Alpine team has piqued their interest in the Mercedes reserve driver, Valtteri Bottas. The team has questioned Bottas’s availability, keeping him in mind for either this season or the upcoming ones. With talk about the possible replacement for yet another driver, Pierre Gasly, the number one driver, has decided to keep his head focused on driving, scoring points, and doing his best, claiming this to be all talk.
Regarding the car that the Frenchman and Argentine are driving, it has been admitted that the season will remain long and hard for the drivers. Their current car is not the best it could be, and it does not have many upgrades, yet the team is doing its best to work with what they have. It has been noticed that Colapinto has been having his own set of issues, earning zero points since he replaced Doohan at Imola, where he had a qualifying crash. He ended up destroying the Alpine A525, earning himself a one-place grid penalty for a pit-lane breach. Since Imola, Colapinto has not improved, and with rumors of Bottas coming in, could the Finnish driver truly take his spot at Alpine? In Formula 1, rumors are usually some of the most important pieces of information. Back when there was talk about Lewis Hamilton moving to Ferrari, fans learned their lesson in listening to the rumors around the grid. As of now, nothing is certain, but the possibility of another new driver taking the second seat with Alpine is prominent.
Here is hoping that Alpine can score as many points as they can, so they can climb their way up from the bottom of the barrel. With so many unfortunate incidents the team has faced so far this season, it will be hard work to bring their spot up even one place, but fans are determined to support their team. Since Gasly has experience with each of the tracks, he brings so much to the table for his team. Let’s hope they can provide something in return. Make sure to stay tuned for more updates, and be sure to watch the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix weekend, starting July 25th!
