Can Dallas Deliver? Questions That Could Define the Cowboys 2026 Season

The Dallas Cowboys finished their preseason with a loss to the New Orleans Saints, 27-24. 2026 was one of the best preseason performances Dallas has had in quite some time, winning their first two games in outstanding fashion and instilling a culture among players fighting for roster spots. The preseason provided some clarity on which players will secure roster spots and their potential roles, yet not all of the Cowboys' questions were able to be addressed. With the season set to begin in less than two weeks, what are some questions the Cowboys still have to answer before the start of the 2026 NFL season?

Cornerback Alongside Bland 

One of the first questions Dallas needs to answer is who will be the starting boundary corner alongside DaRon Bland. The two names in contention are newly signed veteran from the Los Angeles Rams, Cobie Durant, and Dallas's third-round pick from a year ago, Shavon Revel. Both have been excellent throughout training camp thus far and could easily be the starter if not for each other. While Durant is the more experienced player, entering his fifth season, the allure surrounding Revel lies in his natural talent, particularly his height and speed, which complicates the decision. Both players have been performing at an elite level during practice against what is arguably the best receiving corps in the NFL. Therefore, the Cowboys have a solid choice between them, regardless of whom they pick. However, one of the two will ultimately be left out of the starting lineup.

Battle for WR5 

With the battle for the last wide receiver spot not as vital compared to the starting outside corner for the Cowboys, Dallas still has to make a tough decision between Jonathan Mingo and Camden Brown. Brown has been the star of the preseason on offense, leading many to believe that Dallas found another gem at wide receiver. Not far behind him is Mingo, whom the Cowboys traded a fourth-round pick for two seasons ago, and despite a slow two years, he has really begun to shine this summer. It is rare for NFL teams to keep six receivers on the roster, but in Dallas's case, it could be a possibility. Both players have made compelling arguments to be on the 53-man roster, even though that is unlikely to happen. The front office will now have to choose which wide receiver to keep on the roster.
