Can the 2026 Mets Offense Sustain Their Recent Hot Streak Going Forward?

MLB

The Mets have faced notable challenges this season, primarily due to a struggling offense. Despite this, the pitching staff has performed consistently well, ranking among the top half of MLB teams in several statistical categories. Recently, however, the offense has shown significant improvement, sparking a four-game winning streak that matches the team’s longest of the year. Now standing at 26-33, the Mets’ resurgence at the plate has been instrumental in their improved performance, particularly during a strong weekend showing against the division rival Marlins to close a 4-2 homestand this week.

An Offense Searching for Answers

The Mets began the week much as they have for most of the season: struggling offensively, especially during the series against the Reds. They managed just two runs in the first two games, both resulting in losses. In the final game of that series, the Mets scored four runs, a meaningful improvement given the team’s recent difficulties. From May 21st to May 26th, the Mets endured a tough stretch, tallying only eight runs across six games. Despite these challenges, the offense has started to show promise this month, highlighted by a 16-run outburst against the Nationals and a productive homestand against the Tigers and Yankees, where they totaled 40 runs.

Payback in Queens: Mets Turn the Tables on Miami

This weekend, against the Marlins, they put up a total of 25 runs. They outscored them 25-9 overall in the series. This was also sweet revenge for the Mets as they looked lifeless offensively against this same team the previous week at Miami, scoring a combined two runs in three games, getting outscored 10-2. During the weekend series, the Mets had contributions from multiple players in the lineup. Juan Soto went four for 11 with a homerun, five RBI’s, two walks, and only one strikeout. Marcus Semien went five for eight with a homerun, three RBI’s, two walks, and two strikeouts.

Stars on the Sideline: Surviving the Injury Storm

This offense is missing its superstar shortstop, Francisco Lindor, who has been out for the team since April 22nd. In addition to missing starting catcher Francisco Alvarez, stretches of the season, Soto, Luis Robert, and Jorge Polanco, who are slated to come back this coming week during the team road trip in Seattle and San Diego. The Mets have needed to rely on veterans from Triple-A and in the free agent market due to these injuries. Two hitters that have helped the team offensively are MJ Melendez and Jared Young. Melendez got off to a red-hot start, batting over .300, but has struggled lately but has been a big boost at times in the outfield and as a lefty bat in the order. Young returned on May 26th from the injured list after playing only five games at the beginning of the season and has been batting cleanup behind Soto in the order and producing a .303 batting average with one home run, three RBI’s, .385 OBP, and .840 OPS.
