Can the 36-Year-Old Canadian Use Her Win Streak to Overcome the Former Title Challenger?
Jasmine Jasudavicius has put together quite the five-fight winning streak after her decision loss to Tracy Cortez in 2023. She has finally earned herself the big fight she has been looking for against the second-ranked Manon Fiorot. Jasmine will try to use her well-rounded skill set to give Fiorot different looks and not let her get comfortable and pick her apart. Will Jasmine get the win that could potentially get her next in line for a title shot, or will Fiorot show that she has leveled up since losing her shot at becoming Flyweight Champion?
Jasmine Jasudavicius has slowly climbed the rankings, taking our former title challengers and former champions during her recent run. She has good striking, but her grappling has allowed her the chance to secure some huge submission victories, the last test being against Jessica Andrade. She will need to use her grappling and wrestling to slow Fiorot down, and if she can get her to the ground, she will be able to do damage and wear her down, which could go a long way to securing the upset victory. She will need to circle and not stay stationary because Fiorot will pick her apart a little at a time, and she will fall far behind. She has all the momentum and her country firmly behind her, which could play a huge role in this fight. If the moment isn’t too bright for her, I see this being a much closer fight than the odds suggest.
Manon Fiorot was on a 12-fight winning streak and was undefeated since joining the UFC in 2021. She was finally able to get her long-awaited title shot against Valentina Shevchenko. It was a close fight on the cards, but I think we all can say Shevchenko won that fight rather convincingly. Fiorot learned that experience plays a huge role in these matchups, and that was a lesson that I think could make Fiorot even better. This is a matchup that presents a similar style that she had against Shevchenko, and we will see how much she has leveled up since that fight and how much of a bigger threat she can be moving forward. She is a tough woman to take down, and on her feet, she is one of the most precise and accurate strikers in the division. I think he will be able to put the pace on Jasmine that will make her shoot early, and when she can stuff the takedowns, she will wear down. She will need to continuously move forward and get Jasmine back against the fence, which will be the best path she can take to secure this victory. I don’t see this fight being as one-sided as it seems, but I think Fiorot is just more polished in each area of the fight, and that could be the major difference.
This is a huge fight in the Flyweight Division between two women who are hungry to get a title shot in the upcoming year. This should be an entertaining fight, no matter where it plays out, and a finish could set this crowd on fire. Whichever way this fight plays out, you're not going to want to miss it or any of the other action this Saturday for UFC Vancouver. The main card has a start time of 7:00 p.m. EST.
