Can the New York Giants Third-Year Safety Take a Big Step in 2026?

Throughout the 2026 season, the New York Giants will rely on developing players to create a strong secondary. One of them is third-year safety Tyler Nubin. After displaying a solid campaign during the 2024 and 2025 seasons, the elite ballhawk will have the opportunity to become a key part of the Giants' defense. In 2025, Nubin showed many flashes of potential while also leaving room for improvement.

He showed strong coverage skills, great awareness, and great knowledge of the game. All of these strengths made him one of the most impactful safeties in his draft class. While many younger defensive players struggle to adjust to the fast-paced nature of the NFL, New York's versatile two-high safety was cool, calm, and collected when it came to handling responsibilities, communication, and playing intentional snaps. Those experiences will play a big part in his role on the team heading into 2026.

Going into year three, the former Golden Gopher has a huge chance to prove himself. Often during year three, young players gain organizational and fan support by showing their true ability. The Giants need Nubin to step up, as last season they struggled significantly on the defensive side of the ball. Last season, the Giants ranked among the worst in the NFL in coverage grades.

These changes obviously won’t turn Tyler into an MVP overnight but will prove him as a reliable and impactful starter for the identity of the defense. If Tyler Nubin continues to take the leap into his third year, he may just become the dependable, playmaking anchor that the Giants desperately need.
