Can ‘The Ruler’ Defeat ‘The American Nightmare’ at Saturday Night’s Main Event?
On the December 13th edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event, we’ll see WWE’s GOAT, John Cena, set to have one last battle in the squared circle with ‘The Ring General’ Gunther. Cena stated that this Saturday Night’s Main Event will be different than once from the past as this edition will include talent from NXT taking on main roster superstars. One matchup that a ton are excited for is a champion vs. champion match between two-time NXT Champion ‘The Ruler’ Oba Femi and two-time WWE Champion ‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes. This matchup features the face of WWE today in Rhodes against someone who very well could be the face of WWE a few years down the road in Femi. Many want to see if ‘The Ruler’ has what it takes to upset ‘The American Nightmare’ in a battle, which I’m sure a great deal of people will be talking about.
While it wouldn’t make sense for Rhodes to lose this match, being WWE’s quarterback and face of the business, it also does not make sense for Femi to lose this match either. At NXT Deadline just a week ago, Femi defeated Ricky Saints to become a two-time NXT Champion. While ‘The Ruler’ did defeat Je’Von Evans for the title this past Tuesday on NXT, a loss at Saturday Night’s Main Event would start Femi’s title reign in a questionable way. We also must talk about how Oba has a 90-pound weight differential from Cody. It’s very likely we could see Femi start this match off destroying Rhodes, only for ‘The American Nightmare’ to come back and will himself to a win. Rhodes has the skillset to upset ‘The Ruler’ in many capacities, yet there cannot be one mistake from Cody or any outside interference, as Femi will easily take advantage of this with his size and strength.
Speaking of outside interference, there’s a chance we could see this affecting both superstars. For Femi, the man he beat for the NXT Championship, Evans, is on Saturday’s card, teaming up with Leon Slater to face AJ Styles and Dragon Lee. ‘The Young OG’ Je’von could easily impede in this matchup after giving away his championship opportunity at NXT New Year’s Evil for a title shot on Tuesday, which he lost, due to interference from Saints. For Rhodes, there’s also the possibility of someone like Drew McIntyre hampering himself in this matchup, as his beef with Rhodes from the past few months has not concluded. If McIntyre costs ‘The American Nightmare’ this match at Saturday Night’s Main Event, it surely sets up another battle between the two of them, perhaps at the 2026 Royal Rumble.
Most likely, WWE will have Rhodes win this match as he’s the face of the brand and the quarterback of the company. However, it wouldn’t be out of the picture to have the next generation in Femi win this match and establish himself as even more of a dominant force within WWE. Personally, I think a loss for either one brings their stock down a teeny amount. Yet, a win for ‘The Ruler’ will raise Femi’s stock significantly and make him more of a household name, and one to be reckoned with, especially once he gets moved to the main roster.
