Chanticleers and Tigers Clash for MCWS Title

June is the most competitive and important month of the year in college baseball. Every team has its sights set on Omaha, Nebraska. 64 teams enter the postseason, eight will punch their ticket to Omaha, and only one will make it out as national champions. Now, only two games stand between LSU, Coastal Carolina, and their shot at winning the College World Series.

The Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina have made it known that they are not to be seen as a Cinderella story this season. Not only do the boys in teal have a massive 56-11 record, they are making history riding into the final series of the NCAA postseason on a 26-game win streak. 26 games is the longest win streak ever for any team entering the MCWS final. Extending their win streak to 28 would give them a 58-11 record and would secure them their second MCWS title in program history.

On the other side of the ball, the LSU Tigers have dominated the SEC and made appearances in Omaha twenty times during the duration of the program. In 2023, led by Paul Skenes on the mound, the Tigers claimed the National Championship title, taking down the Florida Gators. However, their road to Omaha was cut short by the North Carolina Tar Heels in 2024. Now, back in Omaha, the Tigers are looking to take back the title of National Champions.

Like the Chanticleers, the Tigers haven’t lost a game since their final game of the round of 64. Like the Chanticleers, the Tigers hosted a regional and a super regional. Unlike the Chanticleers, the Tigers’ road to victory came down to the wire. A crucial error made by Arkansas allowed the LSU Tigers to end their game in walk-off fashion. A 6-5 victory that sent them into the championship series.

Both teams have something to prove. Coastal wants to make sure no one will be thinking of them as a Cinderella again anytime soon. The Tigers, after sitting at the top of the regular season rankings for weeks, want back the title they claimed in 2016. Bats will need to be hot, pitching will need to be spot on and consistent, and the defense will need to be locked in and precise, because only one of these teams will get to head home on Monday with the title of MCWS Champions.
