Who Is Barca Target Roony Bardghji?

FC Barcelona has already had a busy summer. They signed Joan García from rivals Espanyol and are seemingly on track to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Club. Fabrizio Romano announced yesterday that Barca’s sporting manager Deco might look for a deal with Roony Bardghji of FC Copenhagen. Barca fans may be wondering, who is Bardghji, and what could he bring to the club?

Who Is Roony Bardghji?

Bardghji is a winger/attacking midfielder for Copenhagen who has played 68 matches for the senior team, making 35 starts. He made his professional debut six days after his 16th birthday and has scored 13 goals. Bardghji also plays for the Sweden U21 team, which failed to qualify for the U21 Euros. He has three goal contributions for the national team. Bardghji suffered an injury in April 2024, keeping him sidelined for 11 months, and also the reason he only played five matches this year. He recorded eight goals, including a winner against Manchester United, for Copenhagen in the 23-24 season and made 17 starts as he was healthy for most of the season. Bardghji’s market value is 7.5 million euros.

What Would Barca Get From Him?

Bardghji is pretty similar to Lamine Yamal. Both players are confident dribbling, like to cut inside, and can go for goal with their left foot. That said, Yamal is a much better passer and, in general, a better player. This is fine, as frankly, no one should be expected to match Yamal, but Bardghji could be an excellent backup option. Not only do they play the same position, but their similar play styles could help the team experience less drop-off when Yamal leaves the pitch. Last season, Barca didn't have a direct substitute for Yamal. Raphina normally switched to the right side when Yamal wasn’t playing, which made the left side of the attack less dynamic. Acquiring a player in Bardghji who could come on for Yamal and who has game-changing potential is almost a no-brainer for the Blaugrana.

Not many football fans were familiar with Roony Bardghji before this week; however, Barca sees him as a player worth signing. His contract expires on December 31st, which could lower his asking price now or make him free if clubs are willing to wait until the winter. Barcelona will have to compete with clubs like Porto and Marseille, who could probably offer the youngster more playing time. A move to Barca comes with immense pressure, and we don’t know if Bardghji is ready for a top club. For Barca, the move would be cheap and low-risk. If the Swede believes Catalonia is the place for him, the match makes perfect sense.
