Chelsea vs. West Ham United: Who will be Victorious?

On Friday, August 22nd at 2 p.m. EST, Chelsea will be playing against West Ham United at the London Stadium. WHU will be Chelsea’s second game for the English Premier League title. For the 2024-2025 standings, Chelsea is in fourth place with 68 points while WHU is in 14th with 38 points. Chelsea has been improving tremendously with their new playing style since acquiring their new coach Enzo Maresca and have stepped up from their previous struggles. They have been winning their matches and showcasing why they’re one of the best teams in the Premier League. WHU has been facing its own set of challenges this season. A great example would be their constant managerial changes throughout the year and their underwhelming games.

Looking back at Chelsea’s previous games in August, we already see their tenacity in goal scoring. On Sunday, August 10th, Chelsea played against AC Milan and won 4-1. Playing in their 4-2-3-1 line-up, they were able to have good possession of the ball and block opposing defenders. Interestingly enough, they received six free kicks and only managed to get one goal out of them. Cole Palmer, midfielder, known for his excellent ball control and versatility, won a free kick at the 20th minute. However, he missed and hit the left post.

In their last game, Chelsea showcased their quick and energetic play. We can predict that we will see this same energy with WHU. WHU's previous game was on August 16th against Sunderland, where they lost 3-0. Although they lost, they put forth a reasonable effort. They also had numerous opportunities to score goals from free kicks; however, they were unable to capitalize on these chances. Jarrod Bowen, captain of West Ham, known for creating opportunities for goals, tried to stay on top of the game. Bowen’s attempt at scoring goals was unfortunately not successful. WHU's start to the Premier League has been concerning.

Chelsea should not have many problems defeating West Ham United. Although WHU has some wins, their current playing style has left fans uninspired and unimpressed.  Chelsea has the upper hand at this time, but no one knows the future; WHU may surprise us. Let’s see who will end up victorious!
