Is There a Chance the Jets May Trade One of Their Running Backs?
This past offseason and training camp have revealed a lot about the new mentality of the New York Jets. New head coach Aaron Glenn is preaching accountability, the offense and defense look like they have the opportunity to shine this season, and general manager Darren Mougey had an under-the-radar first draft. Along with a new mentality, Glenn is bringing his use of a running back by committee to New York, perfectly mixing the trio of Breece Hall, Braelon Allen, and Isaiah Davis. In the first preseason game of the season, the Jets tested this approach for the first time, and all of the backs seemed to mesh well. Since last season, there have been plenty of rumors floating around about the Jets being interested in trading Hall. However, this training camp seems like it could be more of a possibility.
During Hall’s rookie season, he seemed like he was primed to be the next biggest star. Before getting injured in Week Seven of the 2022 season, Hall had four touchdowns and ran for 463 yards. His next two seasons, coming off a torn ACL, were disappointing, since he never got back to the player he was in his rookie year. While he certainly may be primed for a breakout season this year, trading Hall before the season begins wouldn’t be too out of the ordinary. While Davis and Allen didn’t see the field too much last season, they both have the opportunity to have breakout seasons themselves.
While a trade probably isn’t close to being done, there might be some reasons why trading Hall may be the right decision for the Jets. First off, Hall is on an expiring deal and probably won’t be re-signed by the Jets after the season comes to a close. Both Davis and Allen have the potential to be an explosive duo, and if the Jets can draft another running back in 2026, they can move ahead with a new trio. However, it’s clear that the Jets are waiting for the right trade partner and the right price before they move Hall. Also, the Jets could wait until closer to the trade deadline to see if they have any playoff hopes before moving their veteran running back.
