Chicago Bears Potential Week One Matchups Prior to Schedule Release

NFL

In 2024, the Chicago Bears opened the season with an ugly win over the Tennessee Titans at Soldier Field. While a win is always better than a loss, the sloppy performance did little to inspire confidence in the team. The Bears eventually stumbled to another losing season, and expectations once again fell flat. Now, in 2025, there is a real belief that the new-look Bears are ready to start strong.

The Bears have a new identity under head coach Ben Johnson, who brings a fresh, creative offensive system to Chicago. Caleb Williams is stepping into his sophomore season with top-tier weapons and a better offensive line. With additions like Rome Odunze, Colston Loveland, and Luther Burden, the Bears’ attack is built to take off quickly. A strong Week One showing would make a powerful statement about where this team is headed.

One of the most compelling possibilities is an opening game against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. The Bears are already scheduled to travel to Philadelphia this season, and that game could be selected as the Thursday night season opener. Facing the champs would be a major challenge, but an upset win could immediately put the Bears in the national spotlight. Starting the year by knocking off the titleholders would send a clear message to the league.

Another juicy option would be a road game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Chicago finally snapped their long losing streak to the Packers last season in Green Bay. Kicking off the 2025 campaign with another win there would be massive for team morale and the rivalry. A second straight victory in enemy territory would show that the tide in the NFC North is turning.

If the league opts for a more favorable matchup, the Las Vegas Raiders would be an ideal opening opponent. Their defense is vulnerable, and Allegiant Stadium would likely be filled with traveling Bears fans. This would be a golden opportunity for Caleb Williams to shine in his do-over Week One start. It could also provide a clean, dominant win to spark momentum early.

Other intriguing matchups include the Detroit Lions, with Ben Johnson facing his former team in a revenge game. The Pittsburgh Steelers offer a potential final meeting between Chicago and Aaron Rodgers if he opts to sign with them. This time in a new uniform. The New York Giants could provide a physical early test with Russell Wilson and a tough defense. No matter who the Bears face, one thing is clear: this Week One will feel different, because the Bears finally look ready. They can set the tone of their entire future by putting on a strong performance.
