Cowboys Next Star Corner: Shavon Revel

NFL

Last year the Cowboys struggled to have a consistent corner group all year. Star ball hawk Trevon Diggs missed the majority of the season due to injury. The other star ball hawk, DaRon Bland, missed half the season but managed to finish it playing seven games. Their two injuries caused a revolving door for the Cowboys at the corner position all season long, and with the third member of the corner group that Dallas hated to lose, Jourdan Lewis, leaving this offseason for the Jaguars, a revamping was needed. The Cowboys decided on drafting Shavon Revel from East Carolina, who was a projected first-round player prior to a season-ending injury in the third round in hopes of becoming the next star corner the Cowboys have produced.

Revel showed a lot of promise in his time for the Pirates after transferring there from Louisburg University. Standing at six feet four inches, Revel's length played an important part in his game, where he had 12 pass breakups and an interception in his second year, as he was a member of the All-ACC Second Team. While his stats might be eye-popping, it was his play on the field that impressed NFL teams. His high-end speed chasing down receivers and his will to get gritty and tackle players paired with his length and height made it a difficult choice for quarterbacks if they wanted to throw Revel’s way. Despite not participating in this past combine, teams knew the potential he has.

Revel was not supposed to fall to the Cowboys in the third round, but the Cowboys took full advantage of him being there at the 76th pick. By drafting Revel, it gives Bland the opportunity to play the slot position in place of Lewis and continue the dominance he displayed back in 2023. The selection of Revel does force the Cowboys into a bit of a dilemma, as questions still remain on the potential future of Diggs in Dallas. However, whether Diggs does intend on leaving to play elsewhere in the future or if the Cowboys decide not to bring him back, the trio of Bland, Diggs, and Revel looks to shine this upcoming season for Dallas.
