Cowboys Starting QB Eyeing History Following Win Against Giants
Dak Prescott and the Cowboys pulled off arguably their most exciting win since the comeback they had against the Falcons in 2020. A thrilling 40-37 victory over the Giants featured Prescott driving down the field during the Cowboys' third possession of overtime. With two minutes left on the clock, he set up Brandon Aubrey for the game-winning kick as time expired. This win marks the 14th straight for Prescott against the Giants, which is close to an NFL record. Prescott needs just three more victories against the Giants to tie the record for the most consecutive wins against a single team. Given his current performance and history, the record seems within his reach.
Interestingly, Prescott's introduction to the NFL came with a loss in his first career game against the Giants, which remains their last victory in Arlington to this day. Prescott and the Cowboys would go on to win the next 11 games that season, but once again fall to the Giants, this time in early December at MetLife Stadium. Since these two losses over nine years ago, Prescott has rattled off 14 straight, with him dominating for most of these wins. The games have varied from blowout wins to game-winning field goals and game-winning drives, but the constant remained, and it was Prescott finding a way to win. Prescott, in these 14 games, has had 3,523 passing yards, 32 touchdowns, seven interceptions, and a 111.2 passer rating.
The record, originally set by Bob Griese for the Dolphins, is a realistic benchmark that Prescott could aim to surpass in the next year and a half. The Cowboys next face off against the Giants in the last game of the regular season, and with the Cowboys ideally fighting for a playoff spot, they would be in a must-win situation. The remaining two wins are likely projected for next year, depending on whether there is no playoff matchup this season between the two teams. The Giants are expected to have Jaxon Dart as their quarterback next year. This change could bring some advantages for the Giants, as they hope to finally defeat Prescott. However, it is more likely that this transition will ultimately have little to no effect on the Cowboys. As history favors Prescott, next season could be the year he ties the record for the most consecutive wins against a single franchise in NFL history.
