DangeRuss or Dangerous Pick: Evaluating Giants Starting Quarterback for Fantasy This Season
The Giants have a full quarterback room for this coming season. They have had their ups and downs during the off-season, however, the question that they are currently dealing with is, can Russell Wilson still be the Giants starter this coming season? With this question being at hand for New York, it will also be hard for many fantasy football managers to decide on drafting him for the team this coming fantasy season. Wilson is currently 36 years old and has been on three different teams in the past few years since he parted ways with the Seattle Seahawks.
He was with the Denver Broncos for two years and last season he played with the Pittsburgh Steelers and will start with the Giants this season. It’s not a good look for him but he brings depth to every fantasy football team that he is going to be drafted to this season. There are upsides to having him on the team. Last season he averaged 16.2 fantasy points per start.
If managers choose to draft him, they will have a chance to bring their numbers up. Wilson has his deep ball pass. He also can match up well with wide receiver Malik Nabers. Wilson will be able to benefit him and boost him up to a WR2 status on any fantasy roster. Wilson also has wide receivers Darius Slayton and Wan’Dale Robinson, who could also see a boost by combining with him in fantasy football this season. This former Super Bowl champion may be favorable as a starter during certain matchup weeks. His career overall is 46,135 passing yards, 350 touchdowns, and 5,462 rushing yards.
There is also a downside to drafting him, not only because of his age but because of his decline in mobility. This caps him out as a lower-end quarterback. Other considerations need to be made and that is how Wilson is going to affect fantasy rosters for dynasty team managers. Rookie Jaxson Dart has already taken over for him during fantasy games because of everything he has shown in OTAs and mandatory mini-camps for the team. The Giants are impressed and may have him start this coming season, which will put Wilson on the back burner.
There are plenty of ways that fantasy managers can look at adding him to their rosters this season. They can pick up and see what happens or they can bench him and put this starting quarterback in when he is needed for certain times this season. He may not be a starter all season, but he can help increase your team's points and help other players out on rosters get what they want. Wilson could surprise everyone this season and prove that he still has his glory days or he can be a complete bust, it all depends on how he can pull his plays off.
