For the first time in the company’s history, and for the first time since being acquired by WWE, Lucha Libre AAA will host their biggest show of the year, TripleMania 34, over a span of two days. The first night will take place in Las Vegas, while the second night will take place in Mexico City two days later. With many matches set to be announced, including talent from AAA, Raw, SmackDown, and NXT, the superstars will hope to show off in front of a hot Mexican crowd. Out of all the matches, one has earned the right to main event the second Night of TripleMania 34: the showdown between AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano. One man is out to prove that he is the king of the luchadores, while the other vows to represent the people of Mexico and put an end to ‘Dirty Dom’s’ tirade in AAA. How did both men get to this moment, and who will walk out of TripleMania 34 as champion?

When Mysterio made his first AAA appearance, it was very clear that WWE wanted to make him the face of AAA. His heelish attitude and demeanor sat very well with the crowd, who were desperate to find someone to support despite him being a heel. El Hijo del Vikingo was champion at the time ‘Dirty Dom’ came along but was being heavily booed due to how WWE handled the Alberto El Patron situation. Fans just weren’t ready to get behind Vikingo, so when Mysterio took the title from him, it felt like the start of a new era in AAA. What was supposed to be a fresh start in the Mexican-based brand quickly turned into a lackluster run. ‘Dirty Dom’ has only defended the title a handful of times and has hardly wrestled in AAA since becoming champion. Fans quickly realized WWE wasn't sure how to book him, despite a red-hot introduction. Now, without a title defense in over three months, he will have to walk into TripleMania 34 against a crowd favorite.

Since arriving in AAA in 2025, Americano has become one of the most beloved superstars on the roster. The crowd didn’t care where he was from, and they instantly adopted him as one of their very own. Every arena that he goes to, he receives the loudest pop out of the entire roster. Americano’s biggest accomplishment in AAA was defeating The Original El Grande Americano during a red-hot match at AAA Noche de los Grandes 2026, who was revealed to be none other than Chad Gable. Before their encounter, Americano had won the 2026 Rey de Reyes tournament, earning him a AAA Mega Championship opportunity. Months have passed since he earned that title match, but the wait will finally be over for him as he gets the opportunity to become the new champion in AAA’s biggest show of the year.

This match will not be easy for Americano, as he will have to outsmart Mysterio in every way. ‘Dirty Dom’ hasn’t defended his title since May 2026, and he will want to cheat his way towards another victory if it means he gets to keep the title longer without having to defend it. He has also gained some new acquaintances in Dorian Roldan and ‘The Nigerian Giant’ Omos. Although the behemoth will have to worry about his own match at TripleMania 34 against Rey Mysterio, there’s no doubt that he will attempt to interfere in any way he can. Americano is no stranger to run-ins, as he had to deal with multiple superstars interfering in his match against OG Americano. Despite the interference, he came out victorious, and he will want to walk out of Mexico holding the company’s most prized possession.

If ‘Dirty Dom’ walks out of TripleMania 34 as the champion, expect the title to be less featured on television with minimal title defenses. WWE has the opportunity to display the title in a meaningful way across the main roster but has failed to do so with ‘Dirty Dom’ as champion. If Americano has his hand raised high in Mexico City, the title can finally receive the proper representation in AAA that it has strongly needed over the past year. He is already a top star in Mexico, and having him lose this world title opportunity could lead to WWE receiving major backlash from the AAA faithful. Only one man can come out on top at TripleMania 34 and declare themselves the true king of the luchadores.
