Do the Giants Have a Chance in the 2026 Season?
The New York Football Giants are set to return within the month. Many analysts and fans have suggested that New York may have a chance of having a better record this coming season. With changes to the coaching staff and the many additions the team has made, the Giants may break the record set over the last three seasons. Many predict this rebuilt team will go 9-8 and finish higher in the NFC East. Big Blue may also land a spot fighting for a wildcard spot towards the end of the season. However, certain factors will come into play to make this happen.
A New Era Begins Under John Harbaugh
The Brian Daboll days are over, and John Harbaugh is stepping in to take over in 2026. Given how he has already run training camp, the Giants may have a shot at improving their record rather than dropping it. The last three seasons have been a complete bust for New York, ending with all-time low records of 6-11, 3-14, and 4-13. The Giants were named the worst team in Giants history in 2024. However, with the many new additions, the team is not as young as it was, and it seems to have successfully completed its rebuild. It may show on paper, but everyone needs to see how the operations work in New York on the field this season. They have multiple upsides that will help them this season.
Special Teams Could Become a Strength
Big Blue has retained two new kickers for this season. Dominic Zvada and Ben Sauls have both been vying to get the starting role as the team's kicker. If they are able to, New York’s kicking team will have a better chance of getting the ball through the goalposts this season. In previous seasons, when Gano was in the lineup, many of his kicks were missed, or he was out with injury. The team knew it was time to move on and have him retire from New York.
Can the Offensive Line Unlock the Offense?
Harbaugh also has a strong chance of having a fantastic offensive line. If the team can learn the schemes and pull them off without mistakes, Big Blue may have a better shot at winning more games. With the return of Cam Skattebo and Malik Nabers later this year, the Giants may have a lot of points up on the board. It’s a matter of finding who can catch the ball from starting quarterback Jaxson Dart. It can’t be all three of them doing the work. However, the new assets this season have a chance to close the gaps, allowing their quarterback to get the ball out quicker.
A Young Defense Ready to Make Noise
The defensive line also must do its job. They need to put an end to any way their opposing team can get the plays out. This team already has multiple monsters who can make sacks and stop the run. These guys may be rookies, but they came out strong when the Giants drafted them in the 2026 NFL draft. They have players such as Brian Burns, Arvell Reese, Tremaine Edmunds, and Abdul Carter, a defensive line that is already bringing value to this team in OTAs and minicamps. Arvell and Edmunds have already built a monster dynamic duo.
Health Will Ultimately Decide the Giants' Ceiling
The only downfall for this team, and the one that could ruin the possibility of a fantastic record, would be injuries like they had last season. If all goes well, New York may be a top-tier team, as they were in the days of Eli Manning. They may have strayed off the trail for a little while, but Harbaugh and company are making this team look like they are working on a better record this coming season, which is exactly what everyone wants to see. This head coach isn’t messing around. He’s got primetime spots and wants his team to shine. Hopefully, Big Blue will pull through and have a season everyone has been hoping for.
