Big Blue’s 2026 Rookie Mini Camp Already Revealed Three Key Trends

NFL

The New York Football Giants' rookie minicamp started on Friday, May 8th, and will run through Sunday, May 10th. The atmosphere for Big Blue is very different heading into this season than it was last season. The first couple of rookie practices took place under the Giants' new head coach, John Harbaugh. The former Baltimore Ravens head coach has already created a more disciplined culture, and the rookie class has shown signs of being one of the best this coming season. Big Blue’s new head coach has spent a lot of time adding depth, building a solid defensive line, and building an offensive line that will work for his quarterback, Jaxson Dart. Here are the top three key takeaways from the first two days of the Giants’ minicamp.

1. The Fifth Pick in the 2026 Draft Already Looks Like a Future Star

Arvell Reese has been one of the most talked-about draft picks this offseason. The former Buckeyes linebacker has also been one of the most talked-about at the training camp. New York made a statement when drafting the 20-year-old and is truly happy with the work he is showing them. The coaches love his speed and how quickly he is learning the defensive schemes. Also, they love how comfortable their young linebacker is with this team's coverage. There is no doubt that there is going to be a great future for the Giants. If Reese develops quickly, this defense with both Reese and Abul Carter can be monstrous in the 2026 season.

2. Special Teams May Actually Become a Strong Weapon This Season

Big Blue may actually have a better chance of winning with their special teams in the 2026 season. The Giants' former kicker Graham Gano seems to have officially run out of steam. He has been spending the last several seasons going out with injury. Harbaugh figured it was time to bring someone else in. New York brought in undrafted kicker Dominic Zvada. This rookie went five-for-five at the mini-camps. He was also able to kick 50+ yards, an area the special teams have been missing for several years due to the lack of a proper kicker. If the Giants are looking for an elite season, this is definitely going to be a big help when it comes to winning close games later on in the season.

3. The Offensive Line May Have Huge Upgrades

The Giants have two offensive rookies who are already making strides in minicamps. They have drafted both Francis Mauigoa and Malachi Fields. Players who are already showing up and putting in the work that Big Blue needs. It’s no surprise that they are already making plays that Habraugh wants. New York has spent years trying to fix the offensive line.

Mauigoa has already been moved inside to guard. He is already looking neutral and ready to protect Dart at all costs. The former Miami Hurricanes guard is already putting in functional work for the team, which is huge for New York. Mauigoa also brings power in the run game, allowing his teammates to get through while he protects against future opponents. This 2026 draftee is definitely something the Giants are looking forward to this season.

On the other hand, if Fields keeps showing up the way that he has in the minicamps, there may be a chance we see him this coming season. This young wide receiver has impressed the team during drills as it is. The 22-year-old is already reliable, physical, and consistently making difficult catches. The only reason Big Blue fans may not see him right away as such a key piece is that Malik Nabers will be returning for this coming season. However, Fields will definitely be a bigger piece of this upcoming puzzle.
