Dodgers Thrash Marlins in Game Two of Their Series
The Los Angeles Dodgers took on the Miami Marlins Tuesday night. The team was looking to build off their walk-off win the previous night, which they did in a 15-2 win. It would be a bullpen game for the Dodgers in this one with, Jack Dreyer getting the start. While the Marlins brought out their ace Sandy Alcantara, who has been struggling to start the year.
It was a quick start in the first inning for both sides, with the Marlins jumping on the board on an RBI single from Dane Myers. Alcantara came into this one with a 6.56 ERA and the Dodgers were looking to capitalize on the righty’s struggles. It took the Dodgers just one batter to tie the ball game up, with Shohei Ohtani hitting his seventh home run of the year. Los Angeles was putting the bat to the ball in every sense, scoring two more runs in the inning to take a 3-1 lead.
Dreyer pitched a clean second inning as his day was done. He has been a valuable piece to the bullpen, pitching 13 games with a now 3.63 ERA. The Dodgers added another run in the second before exploding in the bottom of the third to break this one open. The Dodgers scored three runs in the inning to extend their lead to six.
Andy Pages kicked off the third inning with an RBI single, extending his hitting streak to seven games. Mookie Betts finished off the inning with a two RBI base knock, after coming into the series struggling, Betts has found his groove. After the hit, Alcantara was pulled out of the game, going just 2.2 innings, allowing seven hits, seven runs, walking five and striking just two batters. Although he had been struggling coming into the game, the Dodgers knew they had to take advantage of the situation and they executed it perfectly.
As the game went along, the Dodgers added four more runs in the sixth inning, capped off by a two-run double from last night’s hero, Tommy Edman, to put the game well out of reach. The unsung hero in tonight’s game was Matt Sauer, who took over for Dreyer. Sauer had his best outing of the season, going five innings, allowing five hits and striking out four. The Marlins added a run of their own on Sauer in his last inning off work, it stood as the lone blemish.
The Dodgers added their final four runs of the game, two of which came from Teoscar Hernández as he had a three RBI night. Pages added a solo shot continuing his excellent night. Granted the Dodgers scored three runs on Marlins position player Javier Sonoja in the bottom of the eighth, it was a great night at the plate. The offense accumulated 15 runs on 18 hits. They now look to complete the sweep tomorrow night as Tony Gonsolin gets his first start at Dodgers stadium in two years, while the Marlins roll out Cal Quantrill.
