Does Oregon Football Have the Deepest Roster in 2026?
The stigma surrounding Oregon Football is that they can't win when it matters and are only good in the regular season. While this may be true, it doesn’t dispute the fact that year after year, head coach Dan Lanning and his recruiting team convince some of the best players in the nation to play football in Eugene, Oregon. The Ducks have a lot to be excited about for 2026, with star quarterback Dante Moore returning, who was a 2026 Heisman favorite, and wide receiver Evan Stewart coming back after missing all of 2025 with a torn patellar tendon. Beyond those two, the roster is packed with talent as usual. If this group can dig deep, they might finally prove the doubters wrong.
After one of the messiest and most undisciplined games of his career against Indiana in the Peach Bowl, Oregon’s fourth-year head coach was left speechless. The team looked flat as they watched themselves lose by 34 points to the undefeated Hoosiers. This was easily one of the lowest moments not just for Lanning, but for the whole program. Last year’s roster, which was considered one of the best in recent memory, seemed to give up by halftime. That game marked a turning point, and it was clear changes were needed in the offseason. Losing tight end Kenyon Sadiq to the NFL Draft was expected, but Oregon’s recruiters quickly went after Andrew Olesh, hoping the former Penn State player could help the senior quarterback. Sophomore receiver Dakorien Moore is also set to make an impact this fall after a strong first year, as he’s expected to see more passes coming his way.
As for the Ducks’ schedule this season, they are certainly going to be tested to the fullest, with opponents such as back-to-back games against Michigan and Ohio State. Aside from those two, a trip to USC in Week Four will certainly be a good early-season test. The door to a CFP berth is still very wide open, as there is a good chunk of Big Ten opponents that will fall victim to this high-flying offense. With the amount of retained talent this roster is receiving, there is a hard case to make for this team not to make it to the CFP or win the Big Ten outright.
