Fantasy Football Thoughts: Picking from the Giants Running Back Room
It’s that time of the year again when OTAs come around, and the beginning of the summer means it’s time to start thinking about the up-and-coming NFL season that will debut in September. This all means that fantasy football leagues are about to start up again among family and friends. The thoughts will ponder who will have a breakout season this year and who managers will want to add to their rosters. The options this year are wide open, and the selections are huge. One of the bigger questions that remains when it comes to picking out a running back from the New York Giants is: Should fantasy players pick Cam Skattebo or Tyrone Tracy Jr.?
Tyrone Tracy Jr.
Tracy made a significant impact last season. After taking over in Week Five last season when Devin Singletary went out with an injury, Tracy stepped in and showed his true talents of explosiveness and versatility. He finished last season with 839 rushing yards, five touchdowns, and 38 receptions for 284 yards and one receiving touchdown. This was huge for those who had him start on their rosters during those few weeks that Singletary was out.
However, Tracy didn’t have a very clean season. He struggled with ball security, recorded a total of five fumbles, and had several challenges in the passing game. Tracy gave a good start but, like all other players, had his moments. He would be someone to start on rosters this season, but not keep him for the whole season.
Cam Skattebo
Skattebo enters the NFL after being selected in this year's 2025 NFL Draft. He has an impressive career at Arizona State. He rushed for 1,711 yards and accounted for 21 touchdowns in his last season. Skattebo also recorded 45 receptions for 605 yards and three receiving touchdowns. He’s known for his ability to power run through anything and his pass-catching ability. Skattebo is considered a huge candidate. There has been much talk that this rookie is going to bring the heat to the Giants this season.
Skattebo can be a huge option if he is made out to be. What is considered to be a concern is the lack of top-end speed. He has a 40-yard dash time of around 4.66 seconds. It’s something to look into when it comes to drafting him. He may shine, but things may also fall apart if drafted to fantasy teams. Tracy offers immediate value as a starter, especially in the early half of the season. This season should be much better for him. While Skattebo presents long-term roles during the season, he can particularly secure bigger roles as the season goes on. Ultimately, it’s up to team managers; both of these players have merits. Whoever is chosen for teams should most likely align with how leagues are set up and the risk tolerance that is presented in fantasy leagues.
