Former All-EuroLeague Point Guard Traded to the Bucks
Vasilije Micic’s journey to the NBA is one that took a different path than the traditional one. Micic was already playing professional basketball in Europe by the time he was discovered by NBA scouts in 2014. The 31-year-old guard has been playing professionally since he was 16 and has played for leagues in Serbia, Turkey, Lithuania, and Germany. He has played for three teams in the NBA, and now it has been reported that Micic will continue his basketball journey with the Milwaukee Bucks after he was traded to the team for Pat Connaughton and two second-round picks.
Micic began his basketball career playing for the Basketball League of Serbia, making his debut with Mega Vizura in 2010. He went on to play for the team for four years and averaged eight points, three rebounds, and two assists. Micic, along with Boban Marjanovic, were selected as captains for the 2012-13 season when they joined the Adriatic League, ADA League. The point guard averaged 11 points and five assists for Mega Vizura’s first season in the ADA League. During the summer of 2014, two things abruptly happened to Micic that would change the course of his basketball journey. First, he attended the Eurocamp, a basketball camp hosted for European NBA Draft prospects, where he impressed scouts. Due to this, Micic declared for the 2014 NBA Draft. Secondly, Micic joined the German team Bayer Munich because he still wanted to play European basketball before joining the NBA.
The veteran point guard was selected with the 52nd overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2014 NBA Draft. However, he never played for the team as he chose to continue to play European basketball while his rights belonged to the 76ers whenever he decided to come to the NBA. Micic played in Europe for nine more years. During this time, he became a Euroleague MVP and was named MVP of the Euroleague Final Four in 2021 and 2022. The Sixers traded his draft rights to the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2020. He signed his contract with the Thunder in July 2023 and played 30 games for the Thunder. Micic averaged three points and two assists during his time in Oklahoma City. He was traded to the Charlotte Hornets in February 2024 as part of the Gordon Hayward trade. In over 30 games with the Hornets, the veteran point guard averaged 10 points, one rebound, and six assists on 43 percent shooting from the field. He was once again traded to the Phoenix Suns in February 2025 as part of the Jusuf Nurkic trade. Now, Micic has joined the Bucks as he looks to contribute to the team by being a veteran leader off the bench.
